Guyana Amazon Warriors are favorites to win

Who will win Guyana Amazon Warriors vs Jamaica Tallawahs, CPL 2019?

Guyana Amazon Warriors return to home soil when they take on Jamaica Tallawahs in the penultimate group match of the 2019 Caribbean Premier League at Providence Stadium. The match takes place on October 3 and the live action starts at 18:00 local time.

The Warriors sit top of the Caribbean Premier League having won all eight matches they have played so far this season. Their batting has been excellent, with Brandon King, Shoaib Malik and Chandrapaul Hemraj among those to have contributed, and their bowling has matched it – with their attack only getting better since the addition of Imran Tahir.

Jamaica, on the other hand, have an all-star line-up with Chris Gayle and Andre Russell among the ranks, but they have failed to deliver on expectations this season. They have lost seven of their nine matches so far and are guaranteed to finish bottom of the group no matter what.

GAW vs JT Toss Prediction

Guyana only won the toss once in their first block of home matches so they are due some success this time. They fielded first upon winning the toss at Providence Stadium.

GAW vs JT Weather Report

Providence Stadium should be bathed in sunshine on a brilliant clear evening in Guyana, with temperatures just a fraction under 30 degrees Celsius and the chance of rain extremely low.

GAW vs JT Pitch Condition

Providence Stadium has been a good wicket for bowling fast. The bounce is consistent and the carry is good. That also works in favour of the big-hitters, however – well-timed shots will be rewarded.

Guyana Amazon Warriors Team News & Playing 11

GAW Team News

Guyana Amazon Warriors have been fairly consistent with their line-up, with Ben Laughlin having returned to the team for the last two matches. Qais Ahmad has played just twice since his late arrival, but with the pitch at Providence suiting fast bowling, it could be an unchanged side for this game.

GAW Key Players

Imran Tahir: The veteran leg-spinner has been consistently brilliant for the Amazon Warriors since replacing Shadab Khan. He has played five times, taken two wickets in each of those games, and has an economy rate of just a touch over a run a ball.

Brandon King: His run of half-centuries ended last time out, but he has passed 50 three times in this tournament on his way to 287 runs in total, ensuring the Warriors have got off to plenty of good starts.

Chris Green: His last three matches have seen him claim 4-14, 0-14 and 2-18 with the ball in some excellent bowling spells. With 12 wickets from eight matches, he is the Warriors’ top wicket-taker in this year’s CPL.

GAW Team Form

Guyana Amazon Warriors have won eight from eight so far in CPL 2019 season, extending their winning run most recently with wins against St Lucia Zouks and Trinbago Knight Riders – confirming they would finish the group stage with a 100 per cent away record.

Brandon King starred in the former, hitting 81* in an eight-wicket win, chasing 162 at Gros Islet. Chandrapaul Hemraj top-scored last time out, meanwhile with 66 in a total of 185/6. Chris Green and Imran Tahir each took two wickets as the Knight Riders finished short on 166/5.

Guyana Amazon Warriors Predicted Playing 11

GAW vs JT Dream11 Prediction

Wicket-keeper

Glenn Phillips is in brilliant form for Jamaica Tallawahs – one of their only players to have hit top form in this tournament. The wicket-keeper-batsman is 0.5 credits cheaper than Nicholas Pooran too, with his Guyana counterpart having had a significantly quieter tournament too.

Batsmen

Can Chris Gayle really be overlooked with the bat? That is the big question, with the West Indian legend not in great form but also always capable of fireworks – particularly as he looks to the end a disappointing tournament on a high. He is a gamble at 10.5 credits but it could well pay off. Dwayne Smith top-scored for Jamaica last time out, meanwhile, and is a more economical choice at nine credits. The Guyana openers are in superb form and represent excellent value, meanwhile. Brandon King is 8.5 credits and Chandrapaul Hemraj is eight credits. Neither will be flying under the radar after this tournament though.

All-rounders

Shoaib Malik top-scored when these teams last met and has made some useful contributions in the field too. Keemo Paul was the top Guyana wicket-taker in that game too. Both are good options as all-rounders. For Jamaica, with Andre Russell ruled out and Dwayne Smith listed as a batsman, the best all-round option is Imran Khan, who has come into form with the ball in the last couple of games.

Bowlers

Two of the three bowling slots are straight forward – Imran Tahir has taken two wickets in each of the five games he has played so far and is a must-pick as a result at 9.5 credits. Chris Green, meanwhile, was Guyana’s top bowler last time out and he is their leading wicket-taker too. At 8.5 credits, he is great value. That leaves one space and a whole host of fringe bowlers to choose from. On a fast wicket, Romario Shepherd may come back into his own.

Captain/Vice-captain

There are plenty of consistent performers worth looking at for potential Dream 11 captain picks. With the bat, Brandon King and Chandrapaul Hemraj have been excellent at the top of the order for Guyana, while Glenn Phillips has been Jamaica’s stand-out player. The latter has been even more consistent than the Guyana duo too. With the ball, Imran Tahir’s consistency is hard to overlook though – two wickets in each of the five games he has played should guarantee points if he maintains that record. Tahir could be captain, with Phillips vice-captain.

Jamaica Tallawahs Team News & Playing 11

JT Team News

Injuries and international commitments have hampered Jamaica Tallawahs throughout this tournament. Jade Dernbach and Dwayne Smith were drafted in as replacements earlier in the tournament, while Liton Das made his first appearance last time out too. Andre Russell has suffered more injury problems and may not be risked for this dead rubber – which could allow Trevon Griffith another opportunity in the middle-order. Rovman Powell is also out with an abdominal injury.

JT Key Players

Glenn Phillips: The New Zealander has been one of few positives for the Tallawahs in this competition. His 23 against St Lucia Zouks last time out was his lowest score in seven innings, during which time he has scored three half-centuries and reached 40 twice too.

Dwayne Smith: Took five wickets in his last four matches and then hammered 58 with the bat last time out too, to at least provide an alternative to Powell and Russell.

Chris Gayle: After hitting a century earlier in the tournament, the West Indian icon has not managed to recapture that stunning form. He will want to sign off on a high, however, and has proved time and time again that he should not be written off.

JT Team Form

Jamaica Tallawahs gave themselves an outside chance of reaching the play-offs when they beat Barbados Tridents thanks to an excellent bowling effort. Despite being bowled out for 127, Imran Khan’s 3-19 helped them restrict the Tridents to 122/9 in reply.

They needed to beat St Lucia Zouks next up to stay in with a chance, but Dwayne Smith’s half-century in a total of 165/7, followed by two more wickets for Khan, could not prevent a four-wicket loss. Jamaica are now guaranteed to finish last.

Guyana Amazon Warriors vs Jamaica Tallawahs Head to Head

Guyana Amazon Warriors have won more games against Jamaica Tallawahs than any other Caribbean Premier League team. Their victory at Sabina Park last month was their tenth in 17 previous encounters. Jamaica have won the other seven. Shoaib Malik and Brandon King hit half-centuries in a total of 218/6 in that game, before they bowled Jamaica out for 137 – Keemo Paul taking three wickets. Andre Russell was Jamaica’s top bowler and top batsman but too few of his team-mates came close to his performance.

JT Betway Odds

  • JT to Win the Match: Jamaica Tallawahs are outsiders at 2.40 to beat Guyana Amazon Warriors with Betway.
  • JT Top Batsman: Despite his poor form, Chris Gayle is favourite to be Jamaica Tallawahs’ top batsman with Betway too. He is priced at 3.00, whereas in-form Glenn Phillips can be backed at 3.60. The odds then go out to 5.00 for Dwayne Smith, despite his half-century against the Zouks. Chadwick Walton can be backed at 5.50.

🏆 Guyana Amazon Warriors vs Jamaica Tallawahs Prediction

Guyana Amazon Warriors have won eight from eight so far and it hard to see anyone, let along out-of-form Jamaica Tallawahs, being the team to end that winning streak.
