Our Pick Jaffna Stallions are favorites to win
Galle Gladiators will take on Jaffna Stallions in the final of the Sri Lanka Premier League. The match will be played at the Mahinda Rajapaksa International Stadium and is scheduled to begin at 7.00 PM local time.
So we’re in to the final day of the Sri Lanka Premier League and what a tournament it haas turned out to be. We won’t say that the two best teams are playing the final because Galle Gladiators are very fortunate to have a shot at the title even after losing most of their matches.
For Galle Gladiators, Danuskha Gunathilaka was class apart but if you analyse the performance of their other players, the Galle management will be very disappointed. There were lot of expectations from players like Bhanuka Rajapaksa, Azam Khan, Ahsan Ali, all have consistently performed well in domestic cricket and it was a great opportunity for all of them to make a case for a national selection however, it didn’t happened.
The batting is an issue for Jaffna Stallions as well as they’ve failed to deliver collective performances but the good thing is that all of their players are in form. Avishka Fernando has been their best batsmen and will continue to be. Johnson Charles got 76 the other day is also a big boost. Players like Shoaib Malik, Thisara Perera are also big match players.
In the bowling department, Wanindu Hasaranga, Usman Shinwari and Duanne Olivier form a lethal bowling attack and won’t make it easy for Galle Gladiatiors. All in all, there is a big difference in the skill set of both teams and anyone with little sense of the game can tell that Jaffna Stalions are big favourites here but Cricket is a funny game and we’ve seen some big upsets in the past.
The match can be watched live on Sony Network in Indian Subcontinent (Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Maldives, and Nepal), PTV in Pakistan and ITN in Sri Lanka. Sky Sky Sports will broadcast the matches in the United Kingdom while Cricket viewers in the United States can watch Lankan Premier on Willow TV.
Live streaming: Live streaming of the matches will be available on SonyLiv mobile application..
Toss will be very crucial. In a crunch game like final, on a slow pitch. No captain would want to chase.
The weather looks good but there are 40% chances of rain. Hopefully, it won’t affect the match.
The match will be played at Mahinda Rajapaksa International Stadium, Hambantota. The pitch curators have done a commendable job throughout the tournament. The pitches were excellent for batting. They did get a little slow as the tournament went on but that’s something that’s inevitable. We saw the same in Sharjah during the IPL as well. For this match, the pitch will be no different - A good batting wicket with not much pace. Slower bowlers will have a bigger say than the pacers.

A final is not a game to expect too many changes. Galle Gladiators played their best XI in the semi fibal and unless there is an injury, they are most likely to stick with the same XI. Maybe they could try Hazratulla Zazai in place of Chanaka Ruwansiri.
Galle Gladiators are not in the best of form but they defaecation a strong Colombo Kings in the semi final.
Danushka Gunathilaka, Ahsan Ali, Azam Khan (wk), Bhanuka Rajapaksa (c), Sahan Arachchige, Chanaka Ruwansiri, Shehan Jayasuriya, Dhananjaya Lakshan, Mohammad Amir, Lakshan Sandakan, Nuwan Thushara
Jaffna Stallions were outstanding in the semi final. They made a lot of changes and dropped players like Minod Bhanuka, Tom Moores, Binura Fernando. We don’t think they’ll bring them back as all of them was pretty ordinary.
Jaffna Staliions thrashed Dambulla Viikings in the semi final

Jaffna Stallions are big favourites with odds off 1.66 on Bet365. For Gale Gladiators you’ll get odds of 2.20. On 10 Cric, Jaffna Stallions and Galle Gladiators have odds of 1.62 and 2.05 respectively.
Galle Gladiators are very lucky to fins themselves in the final. However, there is a big difference between the two teams in terms of quality. Jaffna Stallions look far more superior and are favourites to win the title.
Wicket-keeper
Johnson Charles at 9.0 is a good option. He played a magnificent knock of 76 in the semi final so he’s in some good form.
Batsmen
Danushka Gunathilaka at 10, Avishka Fernando at 10 and Bhanuka Rajapaksa at 9.0 form a strong batting order. Gunathilaka and Fernando are the two top scorers for their team while Bhanuka Rajapaksa have started to look good in the last few matches. We expect a big inning is just around the corner.
All-rounders
Wanindu Hasaranga at 9.5, Shehan Jayasuriy at 9.0 and Dhanajaya de Silva at 8.5 will provide enough depth to your team. Hasaranga has been brilliant with the ball but when needed he has contributed with the ball as well. Shehan Jayasuriya is another player that can be very handy with his all round skills. Dhanajaya de Silva is back in the playing XI and is a very useful cricketer.
Bowlers
Usman Shinwari at 8.5, Dianne Olivier at 8.5, Mohammed Amir and Akila Dhananjya at 9.0 form a strong bowling attack. Shinwari and Amir are two quality pacers. Amir especially has been terrific. The other two bowlers i.e Akila Dhananjaya and Duanne Oliver too have been very good with the ball. The pitch support Akila Dhananjaya more than any other bowler.
Captain/Vice-captain
Danushka Gunathilaka is our preferred skipper while Avishka Fernando can be backed as his deputy.
