After five successive defeats to begin this year’s competition, they seem a long way from the confident county who went all the way to lift the trophy in 2021. They needed an experienced player to get their campaign going and it was Joe Denly who hit a century at the top of the order against Middlesex. Jack Leaning then took the lead with the ball and returned figures of 3-30.
