Essex were asked to bat first in their last home game but, after such a dominant batting display, they may choose to do so if Simon Harmer wins the toss this time.
With showers forecast all day, it could be a frustrating evening in Essex and potentially another rain-reduced match too. Though cooler than it has been, it will also be very humid in Chelmsford.
The first T20 fixture of the 2019 Women’s Ashes takes place the day before at Chelmsford, so Essex will be on a used wicket. The forecast rain could mean the pitch is slower than it has been.

Essex were rewarded for sticking with the same team that lost to Middlesex when they faced Surrey in their last home game. With plenty of T20 experience from the likes of Cameron Delport, Ryan ten Doeschate and Ravi Bopara, it is a well-balanced team. Mohammad Amir is yet to feature due to family commitments.
Cameron Delport: If there was any question about his big-hitting ability in T20 cricket, the South African answered it in style against Surrey. He smashed seven fours and an astonishing 14 sixes on his way to 129 from 66 balls to set up a big Essex win.
Ryan ten Doeschate: The hugely experienced Dutch all-rounder hit an unbeaten 74 from 46 balls in his first game of this season’s tournament, highlighting why, at 39, he is still revered in T20 competitions around the globe.
Matthew Quinn: Took a tidy 1-20 in the first game against Middlesex and then claimed three wickets in the win against Surrey too as he continues to grow into the game. The 26-year-old pacemen could be a key under-rated player in this team.
Essex Eagles bounced back from an AB de Villiers-inspired defeat to Middlesex, despite Ryan ten Doeschate’s 74* helping Essex post 164/6, by thrashing Surrey. In a match reduced to 15 overs, Cameron Delport’s sensational 129 from 66 balls helped the Eagles score 226/4. Surrey were always going to struggle in reply, closing on 174/7. They go into this game after returning to action against Kent.

Graeme van Buuren replaced Matt Taylor last time out, but Gloucestershire otherwise stuck with the side that had bowled so well in the rain-curtailed match with Glamorgan. After becoming the first team to beat Middlesex this season, they might stick with that side against Essex.
Benny Howell: Claimed 5-18 from his four overs against Glamorgan before the rain intervened, showing why he is starting to catch the attention of some T20 franchises too.
Andrew Tye: Still among the best T20 pace bowlers in world cricket, having shone at the IPL and for Australia in 2018, the Perth quick has taken three wickets in two games so far and bowled economically too.
Miles Hammond: Hit nine fours and three sixes to guide Gloucestershire’s chase of 149 to beat Middlesex by two wickets in a tense game at Cheltenham last time out. It was the 23-year-old’s highest senior T20 score, and lifted his strike rate in the format to 159.32.
Gloucestershire, led by Benny Howell’s five wickets, had Glamorgan in big trouble at 96/8 in their first game before rain frustrated their efforts. A brief County Championship interlude followed, as they beat Worcestershire by 13 runs in a Cheltenham thriller, before a two-wicket win against Middlesex on their return to T20 action.

Essex Eagles have won six of their 12 previous matches against Gloucestershire, losing four with two no results. The first of last season’s matches was curtailed after Essex had reached 172/7 from 18.2 overs, led by Varun Chopra’s 61, while the second was abandoned without a ball being bowled.
In fact, they have only had one completed game in the last two seasons of Vitality T20 Blast – Essex chasing 122/7 to beat Gloucestershire in 2017,with Chopra (44) again their top batsman.
