England Women are favourites to win
England Women will take on India Women in the second WIT20 at The County Ground, Derby. The second game of the series begins at 19:00 local time on Tuesday 13th September.
The opening pair of Danny Wyatt and Sophia Dunkley put on 60 runs from 6.2 overs in the first WIT20 before teenager Alice Capsey contributed a very useful unbeaten 32 runs from 20 balls from number three. Both Dunkley and Capsey finished not-out and hit sixes on Saturday.
Danni Wyatt and Sophia Dunkley opened the batting for England during the 2022 Commonwealth Games and we expect the pair to be at the top of the order again in this game. 18 year old Alice Capsey made her international debut earlier this year and already has an international half-century to her name.
Although spinner Sophie Ecclestone went wicketless in Chester-le-Street on Saturday, we expect her to enjoy the surface in Derby. Sarah Glenn impressed with figures of 4-23 in the opening game of the series with Freya Davies and Bryony Smith both picking up a wicket each.
The win for England Women was vital for the confidence of the side. Not only were they without some of their most experienced players but they had also lost successive games in this format.
After a strong 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham earlier this summer, no one was expecting the poor performance from India Women in the first WIT20. Only one batter hit a six with only one bowler taking a wicket and we would expect to see a huge improvement in this clash.
Shafali Verma and Smriti Mandhana looked comfortable at the top of the order on Saturday but neither was able to get their team off to a flyer. Skipper Harmanpreet Kaur and keeper-batter Richa Ghosh were the only India players to have a batting strike-rate of over 130.
Off-spinner Sneh Rana was the only India bowler to pick up a wicket in Chester-le-Street with Renuka Singh, Pooja Vastrakar, Deepti Sharma, Harmanpreet Kaur and Shafali Verma all going wicketless. Captain Kaur was particularly expensive, conceding 17 runs from her only over.
India Women have now lost successive games in this format after being beaten by Australia Women in the 2022 Commonwealth Games Final.
The match will be played at The County Ground, Derby. It has been a high scoring ground throughout the 2022 season with pace-off bowlers enjoying the most wickets and lowest bowling averages.

After a one-sided affair in Chester-le-Street in Saturday’s opening game of the series, we expect the teams to be a lot closer in Derby. The pitch conditions should be more familiar to the India Women players but we are predicting another victory for England Women.
