England are favorites to win
England will be aiming for their fourth consecutive win in the tournament when they take on Sri Lanka in this 27th fixture of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019. The match will be played on June 21 at the Headingley Cricket Ground in Leeds. Live telecast is scheduled to begin at 10:30 AM local time.

In the game's 50-over format at the Headingley, the side batting second has been more successful than the side batting first. And also since three of the last five one-day internationals played here have been won by the chasing side, the toss-winning team is more likely to bowl first.

Jason Roy, who is currently recovering from his hamstring injury, missed the last game against Afghanistan and will not be available for this game either. He has been replaced by James Vince who opened the England batting alongside Jonny Bairstow. The hosts made one more change to their side, replacing Liam Plunkett by Moeen Ali, and it will be interesting to see who they will prefer against Sri Lanka. One thing, however, is certain that England will continue with the Vince-Bairstow opening combination.
Joe Root has shown sublime form so far in this Cricket World Cup and is definitely the key man with the bat for England. He is currently the second-highest run-getter in the tournament with 367 runs in five matches which includes two hundreds and as many fifties. Eoin Morgan went berserk in the last game against Afghanistan, cracking 148 runs off just 71 balls and hitting 17 sixes - the new ODI record. Jonny Bairstow and Jos Buttler are two other danger men in England's batting line-up.
Jofra Archer has been outstanding in the CWC 2019 and seems to have a knack of picking up a three-wicket haul each time. The pacer is one of the tournament's best bowler with 12 wickets at an economy of 4.84 and he is likely to cause plenty of problems for the Sri Lankan batsman as well. Mark Wood has nine wickets in four games and he along with Chris Woakes are two other bowlers to watch out for.
England have now won nine of their last ten completed one-day internationals. With eight points in their kitty, they are currently leading the CWC 2019 leaderboard having won four and lost one out of their five fixtures. After their defeat against Pakistan, the home team has come back strongly winning their next three games on the bounce - against Bangladesh, West Indies and Afghanistan. England were absolutely ruthless in their whopping 150-run victory over Afghanistan.

Sri Lanka made just the one change to their line-up for the previous match against Australia as they dropped fast bowler Suranga Lakmal for all-rounder Milinda Siriwardana who failed to make much contribution with both bat and ball. The Lankans may bring back Lakmal for this upcoming encounter against England and we don't expect them to make any more changes to their side.
Dimuth Karunaratne and Kusal Perera have been the best batsmen for Sri Lanka so far in this World Cup and the onus will be on this opening pair to ensure a strong position for the team when it comes to batting. Both have smashed a couple of half-centuries in three matches and scored 97 and 52 respectively in the last game against Australia. The Lankans will also expect healthy contributions from Kusal Mendis and Angelo Mathews in the middle order.
Nuwan Pradeep and Lasith Malinga are Sri Lanka's best bets in terms of bowling. Pradeep snared a four-wicket haul against Afghanistan at Cardiff and he will look to deliver a similar performance here. Malinga too has four wickets in three games and he will look to trouble the England batsmen with his pin-point yorkers. Dhananjaya de Silva and Isuru Udana took two wickets apiece last time and that should give them some confidence going into this game.
Sri Lanka have played five matches so far this World Cup and are currently sixth on the points table with one win, two losses and as many washouts. After a ten-wicket drubbing at the hands of New Zealand in their campaign opener, they bounced back with a 34-run win over Afghanistan in a rain-marred contest. Their next two games - against Pakistan and Bangladesh - got abandoned due to rain before they ran into Australia last time and ended up losing by 87 runs.
Dimuth Karunaratne (c), Kusal Perera (wk), Lahiru Thirimanne, Kusal Mendis, Angelo Mathews, Milinda Siriwardana/Suranga Lakmal, Thisara Perera, Dhananjaya de Silva, Isuru Udana, Lasith Malinga, Nuwan Pradeep
England and Sri Lanka have played 72 completed matches against each other in the fifty-over format of the game. 36 of those have been won by the former and 35 by the latter while one has resulted in a tie.
England have won six of their last seven completed one-day internationals against Sri Lanka. The latter, however, recorded a mammoth 219-run victory when these two teams last faced each other - in October 2018 at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.
England and Sri Lanka have both won two times each in the four ODIs that they have played against each other at the Headingley. Sri Lanka have emerged victorious on the previous two occasions - by 8 wickets in 2006 and by 69 runs in 2011.

England are hot favorites to win this CWC 2019 match at extremely short odds of 1.08 with Bet365 and 1.07 with Betway and Betrally. Sri Lanka are massive underdogs amongst the bookmakers and are being priced much higher at 8 on Bet365 and 7.50 on Betway and Betrally.
With just four points from five matches, Sri Lanka find themselves in a position of trouble. They now have to win all four of their remaining matches in order to have any chance of making it through to the semi-finals. So they will be playing under a lot of pressure which could have an adverse effect on their performance. England, on the other hand, are flying high on confidence and have plenty of momentum on their side with wins in their last three matches. The hosts have won their last six ODIs at this venue and we expect them to make it seven in a row come Friday.
