With the series level at 1-1, the third and final Test between England and South Africa gets underway at the Kia Oval in South London on Thursday at 11:00. South Africa won the first Test convincingly by an innings and 12 runs at Lord’s before England bounced back with a win by an innings and 85 runs in Manchester. Read on as we preview this Test Match.
England’s bowlers set up the victory in the Second Test with exceptional bowling on the first day. Lower order batting took England to their strong position and they will be looking for another consistent performance in this Test.
South Africa were brought back down to earth after their impressive win at Lord’s. Although their confidence will have been slightly dented, they can take confidence from how England responded from a heavy defeat.

South Africa won the toss and chose to bat first in Manchester but were bowled out for 151 in bowler friendly conditions. We predict similar conditions on Day 1 in London and expect both skippers to choose to field first.
The Kia Oval pitch is often used for the Final Test of the English summer and will offer spin after a hot and dry few months. Both teams will be aiming for a total of at least 400 in their first innings.

After a freak injury whilst playing golf last week, England’s player of 2022, Jonny Bairstow, was ruled out of this Test Match and the T20 World Cup next month. Yorkshire middle-order batter, Harry Brook, is expected to come in to make his Test debut at the Kia Oval.
England have won five of their last six games in this format. All this in spite of having clear problems at the top of their batting order.

There was one change for South Africa from the Test at Lord’s to the game in Manchester. Out went pace bowler Marco Jansen with spinner Simon Harmer coming in. We expect Harmer to keep his place at the Kia Oval where Rassie van der Dussen will miss out through injury. Ryan Rickleton will replace van der Dussen.
South Africa’s Test winning run was ended after four straight wins. They were completely outplayed in the Second Test but we expect them to fight back in south London.
