Who Will Win Dindigul Dragons vs Chepauk Super Gillies, TNPL 2019?

After finishing first and second in the group, Dindigul Dragons and Chepauk Super Gillies face-off for the first final spot in the Tamil Nadu Premier League 2019 play-offs. The first qualifier play-off takes place at Tirunelveli on August 11 and starts at 15:15 local time.

The Dragons stormed to the top of the table with six wins from their first six games, and will want to get straight back to winning ways after being bowled out for 99 in their final group game. They had previously excelled with bat and ball.

Chepauk Super Gillies won five group games and head into his match on the back of a win, meanwhile – their bowlers delivering another brilliant economic performance to defend 127 against TUTI Patriots.

DDD vs CSG Toss Prediction

Tirunelveli, though a low-scoring pitch, has tended to favour teams batting first more than those fielding. After their defeat last time out, Dindigul Dragons might want to bat first as they bid to put things right.

DDD vs CSG Weather Report

The temperatures are due to ramp up in the week with sunnier conditions and no chance of rain in Tirunelveli. Temperatures will be in the mid-thirties.

DDD vs CSG Pitch Condition

Tirunelveli has been, predominantly, a pitch to bat first on. Dew and a worn wicket combine to make batting second difficult at the Indian Cement Company Ground.

Dindigul Dragons Team News & Playing 11

DDD Team News

The Dragons should be back to full strength for these play-offs, after Ravichandran Ashwin sat out the final group game. Ashwin, NS Chaturved and Jagannathan Kaushik should all return.

DDD Key Players

Narayan Jagadeesan: Leading the way with the bat, despite falling first ball last time out, having hit three half-centuries and one unbeaten hundred during the group stage. The wicket-keeper-batsman has scored 361 runs in total with a strike rate of 143.82.

C Hari Nishanth: Jagadeesan’s fellow opener also fell for a duck in the last game but also has three half-centuries to his name from an otherwise excellent group stage. He has hit 238 runs in total and also picked up two wickets.

Ravichandran Ashwin: The Dragons’ captain and most notable player has shown flashes of his best form on his way to 114 runs in five innings – including a half-century – and seven wickets in six games.

DDD Team Form

Dindigul Dragons rested a couple of players for their final group game and consequently suffered their first defeat of the tournament – bowled out for 99 as they fell well short of Lyca Kovai Kings’ 134/8.

The Dragons had won all six of their previous matches, most recently chasing 134 to beat VB Kanchi Veerans by seven wickets at Dindigul.

Chepauk Super Gillies Team News & Playing 11

CSG Team News

Chepauk Super Gillies welcomed fit-again Vijay Shankar back to the side last time out, with the Indian international finally recovered from the injury which cut short his World Cup campaign. Shankar is likely to remain, with the main selection debate for Chepauk Super Gillies behind the stumps – Umashankar Sushil kept wicket last time out, replacing A Aarif.

CSG Key Players

Vijay Shankar: Unable to show his best batting form on his first appearance last time out, but he then opened up with a wicket with the ball (and a wicket maiden) as he guided the Patriots through to the final.

Hari Gopinath: Continued his good batting form with his third half-century of this year’s  TNPL against TUTI Patriots last time out. He now has 277 runs at a strike rate of 152.19 so far in this year’s competition.

S Harish Kumar: Dismissed danger man Akshay Srinivasan last time out to claim 3-4 from two overs. He now has 14 wickets in seven matches so far – including two four-wicket hauls – and he has also scored 141 runs, including a half-century.

CSG Team Form

Chepauk Super Gillies lost just two of their seven group games – their first match, against Dindigul, and their penultimate game against Siechem Madurai Panthers. A rare expensive bowling performance cost them in the latter – conceding 172/7 and finishing 139/8 in reply.

But they were back to their best against TUTI Patriots in their final game. Knowing a win would see them finish second, Hari Gopinath’s half-century helped them to 127 all out before they bowled the Patriots out for 95.

DDD vs CSG Head to Head

Dindigul Dragons started this year’s tournament with their second win against Chepauk Super Gillies in four previous games. It was their second win in a row and once again owed much to their bowlers – as the previous one had, when they bowled the Gillies out for 120 and won by nine wickets.

This time, the Dragons batted first and were restricted to just 115/9 – R Alexander claiming 3-11. In reply, however, M Silambarasan took 4-13 as the Gillies were held to 105/9.

DDD vs CSG Dream11 Prediction

Wicket-keepers

Chepauk Super Gillies have changed their wicket-keepers around, whereas Dindigul have stuck consistently with the supremely in-form Narayan Jagadeesan. He would have been the best pick, regardless of the Gillies’ situation.

Batsmen

Hari Nishanth has been an excellent partner with Jagadeesan and will be key again in this game alongside him. For the Gillies, Hari Gopinath has been their top man with the bat. Uthirasamy Sasidev has hit some decent form of late, meanwhile, and is good value too at 8.5 credits.

All-rounders

Vijay Shankar made exactly the impression expected of him in the Gillies final group game and, though he comes at a cost, he is one of the key players in this fixture. The same can be said of Ravichandran Ashwin for Dindigul. Murugan Ashwin and S Harish Kumar are both options for Chepauk too, with the latter in particularly good form. Picking all four is expensive, and leaves no space for Ramalingam Rohit, however. If you want to save some credits, Rohit for Murugan Ashwin might be the swap you need. Alternatively, Shankar has only played once and did not get a score with the bat – at ten credits, perhaps is lack of match fitness could be a reason to look elsewhere.

Bowlers

If you have swapped Rohit in for Murugan Ashwin, there is enough for one 8.5-credit bowler and two at eight credits. M Siddharth and Jagatheesan Kaushik are in the latter category and represent good value. R Alexander is 8.5 credits, meanwhile, as is M Mohammed for the Dragons. If you have managed to keep more in reserve, the leading bowlers – at nine credits apiece – are G Periyaswamy and M Silambarasan.

Captain/vice-captain

With plenty of all-rounders and in-form batsmen to choose from, there is lots of choice when it comes to captain and vice-captain. S Harish Kumar has impressed with bat and ball more consistently than the two Ashwins, perhaps. Narayan Jagadeesan has been the tournament’s leading batsmen, meanwhile, and is hard to look past if you want a good bet on a big score. As he fell short last time out, however, perhaps vice-captain is a slightly safer bet.
