Team News

With Deepak Chahar out injured and overseas duo Sam Billings and Imran Tahir out of form, Chennai Super Kings have been unchanged in their last two matches. Chahar faces at least another week out with a hamstring injury, while Tahir found himself surplus to requirements when Lungi Ndidi returned to the squad after spending time at home due to family circumstances. With KM Asif proving expensive, however, there may be another reshuffle as England duo David Willey and Mark Wood wait in the wings.

Key Players

Ambati Rayudu is the leading run scorer in the 2018 Indian Premier League, with 391 runs from his nine innings so far, including two half centuries. His high score of 82 came in the most recent Cauvery Derby, bludgeoned off 53 balls to lead Chennai Super Kings to victory. MS Dhoni was man of the match in that game, however, after guiding Chennai to their target by blitzing 70 runs off 34 balls, including seven sixes. He has since gone on to take his tally to 329 for the season. Shane Watson scored a century in the win against Rajasthan Royals earlier in the season, meanwhile, as well as 78 as Chennai beat Delhi Daredevils after he and Faf du Plessis shared a century partnership for the first wicket. Suresh Raina has also been in the runs, with unbeaten half-centuries against both Mumbai Indians and Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Recent Form

Defeat to Kolkata Knight Riders at Eden Gardens last time out, when the hosts chased 178 to win in just 17.4 overs, saw Chennai Super Kings drop to second behind Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL table. It was Chennai's second defeat in three games, with an eight-wicket loss to Rohit Sharma-inspired Mumbai Indians preceding a 13-run victory against Delhi Daredevils. The game against Delhi, Chennai's most recent match at Pune, saw the hosts post 211/4 thanks to half centuries from Shane Watson and MS Dhoni. The Daredevils reached 198/5 in response.

Team News

AB de Villiers is fit to return to the Royal Challengers Bangalore after missing the last two games with a virus. The South African was in supreme form before his illness, but with Brendan McCullum in good shape in De Villiers' absence the Virat Kohli may opt to replace Colin de Grandhomme instead. The New Zealand all-rounder has been batting at number six and has bowled just three overs in three games. Should they take that option, Manan Vohra will drop down the batting order. The other option would be a straight swap with McCullum, despite the New Zealander's return to form.

Key Players

That he's missed the last two games and still sits tenth in the run-scoring list for this year's IPL shows just how good AB de Villiers' form was before his injury. He has 280 from six innings in total, including three half-centuries. He hammered 90 not out from 39 balls against the Delhi Daredevils and followed that up with 68 from 30 in the most recent Cauvery Derby - his last match before illness. Unsurprisingly, however, it is India captain Virat Kohli who leads the Royal Challengers' batting charts. His 349 runs so far - putting third in the race for the orange cap - includes an unbeaten 92 against Mumbai Indians in Mumbai, while he has scored 100 in his last two innings (68* against Kolkata, 32 against Mumbai). With the ball, Tim Southee has played the last two games and took 2/25 from his four overs in the win against Mumbai last time out.

Recent Form

Royal Challengers Bangalore have just three wins to their name this season, but one of them was in their most recent game as they defended 167/7 to beat Mumbai Indians by 14 runs last time out. That was the final one of four consecutive home games, which brought two wins - the defeat of Mumbai and a six-wicket win chasing 174/5 against Delhi Daredevils - bookending two losses, where they failed to defend 205/8 in the last Cauvery Derby and lost in the last over again defending 175/4 against Kolkata Knight Riders.

CSK vs RCB Head to Head

CSK vs RCB Head to Head

Chennai Super Kings maintained their winning run against Royal Challengers Bangalore in the first Cauvery Derby after their two-year IPL ban, with their five-wicket win last time out representing their fifth consecutive win in this fixture and 14th in 22 matches in total. Ambati Rayudu and MS Dhoni fired Chennai Super Kings to victory last time out, as an AB de Villiers-inspired 205/8 for the Royal Challengers could not be defended. Chennai reached their target with two balls to spare, after Rayudu and Dhoni hit 15 maximums between them. Corey Anderson came in for the most punishment after returning figures of 0/58 from 3.4 overs.

CSK vs RCB Betting Odds

Chennai Super Kings are favourites to continue their winning streak in this fixture, with Bet365 offering 1.80 for them to win, and Betfair pricing them at 1.83. Both have Royal Challengers Bangalore at 2.00.

With AB de Villiers fit again, however, you can back him at 3.75 with Betfair to be the Royal Challengers Bangalore top batsman - as he was in the reverse fixture - while Virat Kohli is 3.25 with Bet365.

With Chennai boasting runs throughout their top order, Shane Watson is a best price of 4.33 to top score, while orange cap leader Ambati Rayudu - who was their top batsman in the last Cauvery Derby - is 4.33 with Betfair.

Watson and Faf du Plessis have enjoyed two good opening stands in their last two matches, meanwhile, and Chennai's opening pair are 1.91 with Betfair to produce the highest opening partnership. Their last two opening partnerships have been worth 102 and 48 respectively.

Chennai vs Bangalore Prediction

Chennai Super Kings have a great record in this fixture, and it is the ideal game for them to get back to winning ways despite the return of AB de Villiers for the visitors. But Royal Challengers Bangalore will be confident of their win in last match and should make it their 4th win of the tournament.

Final Verdict: Back Royal Challengers Bangalore to beat Chennai Super Kings at 2.00 with Betfair & Bet365 and 1.83 with Betway.
