Who will win Chattogram Challengers vs Rajshahi Royals, BPL 2020?

A place in the Bangladesh Premier League 2019-20 qualifier play-off is up for grabs for the winner as Chattogram Challengers and Rajshahi Royals conclude their league-phase campaign against each other in Dhaka. The first game of the final day of league fixtures, January 11, gets underway at 13:20 at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium.

Chattogram Challengers moved two points clear of Rajshahi Royals by beating them in both teams’ most recent game. Imrul Kayes was their key man, leading them to 170/3 in 18.3 overs to secure a seven-wicket win.

Rajshahi still boast the betternet run rate, however, so the winner of this game will be guaranteed a top-two spot. The Royals, of course, go into it on the back of a defeat whereas the Challengers have won their last two.

Chattogram Challengers Team News & Playing 11

CHC Team News

Chris Gayle made his first appearance of the tournament last time out, in an all-West Indian opening pairing with Lendl Simmons – and immediately hit his stride too. Mahmudullah returned from injury to captain the team too, and Chattogram Challengers’ batting line-up has taken on a new dimension as a result.

CHC Key Players

Lendl Simmons: Scored his 53rd T20 half-century last time out – hitting from 51 from 43 balls, including four sixes, at the top of the order. It was his third 50 of the 2019-20 BPL.

Chris Gayle: In case you were in any doubt as to whether the West Indian legend could still deliver, he returned from his self-imposed cricketing break by hitting three sixes in a ten-ball cameo, hitting 23.

Rubel Hossain: Eight wickets in his last three matches have taken him to 16 in total for the tournament. His figures of 3-20 last time out included 14 dot balls but were actually worse than the 3-17 he took in the previous game.

CHC Team Form

Chattogram Challengers have won their last two matches to keep themselves in pole position for a top-two place and two shots at a place in the BPL 2019-20 final. Rubel Hossain and Mehedi Hasan Rana took three wickets apiece as they bowled Khulna Tigers out for 121 to get back to winning ways – chasing it with six wickets and 11 balls remaining.

Last time out, meanwhile, Hossain (3-20) and Ziaur Rahman (3-18) helped limit Rajshahi Royals to 166/8 from their 20 overs and Lendl Simmons (51) and Imrul Kayes (67*) led the Challengers to a seven-wicket win with nine balls remaining.

Rajshahi Royals Team News & Playing 11

RAR Team News

Andre Russell returned as expected last time out, and will hope to have shaken off any rustiness brought on by his injury ahead of this game. It meant no place for Mohammad Nawaz – harsh given his form, but expected – as Shoaib Malik, Ravi Bopara and Mohammad Irfan occupied the other overseas slots.

RAR Key Players

Shoaib Malik: The 37-year-old Pakistani has enjoyed a purple patch in his twilight years, and added another 28 runs last time out to move to 309 in this year’s tournament.

Mohammad Irfan: Bowled a maiden over and 14 dot balls in all last time out – a good recovery – but could not add to his seven wickets. Nevertheless, the giant pace bowler remains a key man.

Andre Russell: Offered a glimpse of his best form with 20 from ten balls on his return with the bat last time out, while his bowling is just as valuable if he hits top stride – something he has done to great effect in among his injury woes.

RAR Team Form

Rajshahi Royals won twice in Sylhet, beating Rangpur Rangers by 30 runs and chasing 144 to cruise to a six-wicket win against Sylhet Thunder in their two matches.

Their winning streak ended last time out, however, despite Liton Das scoring 56 in a total of 166/8 against Chattogram Challengers. The Challengers needed just 18.3 overs to seal a seven-wicket win.

Rajshahi Royals Predicted Playing 11

Liton Das, Afif Hossain, Shoaib Malik, Irfan Sukkur (wk), Ravi Bopara, Andre Russell (c), Alok Kapali, Farhad Reza, Mohammad Irfan, Abu Jayed, Kamrul Islam Rabbi

Victory for Chattogram Challengers last time out levelled up the head-to-head record in this fixture. Both teams have now won four times apiece in eight matches. Liton Das hit 56 for Rajshahi in a total of 166/8, but Rubel Hossain (3-20) and Ziaur Rahman (3-18) took the plaudits for Chattogram. Chattogram Challengers vs Rajshahi Royals Prediction

Chattogram Challengers recorded an important win when these teams last met, and the addition of Chris Gayle and fit-again Mahmudullah makes for a formidable-looking batting line-up.

Final Verdict

Chattogram Challengers to beat Rajshahi Royals.

CHC vs RAR Dream11 Prediction

The choice behind the stumps is a very good one. Liton Das hit a half-century last time out and has more than 500 points this season, but both Chadwick Walton and Nural Hasan are worth considering too. The former is always a potential danger with the bat too.

Chris Gayle hit three sixes as he made his first appearance of the tournament last time out, but opening partner Lendl Simmons looks the better value at 9.5 credits as opposed to 10.5 credits, particularly as he has hit three half-centuries this season. Imrul Kayes also scored an unbeaten half-century last time out and with 576 points at nine credits, he is well worth selecting. For the Royals, Shoaib Malik chips away with the bat and has more than 300 runs, while his bowling makes his ten-credit price worth paying. Rajshahi Royals opener Afif Hossain has 600 points to his name, meanwhile – he is a must-pick at 8.5 credits as a result.

Andre Russell and Mahmudullah both returned from injury last time out, but managing to afford Russell – well worth it if you can manage it – will be difficult at 11 credits. Mahmudullah is better value at 9.5 credits, while Ravi Bopara is just nine credits despite amassing 533 points so far.

Leaving out Russell opens up the chance to look at the likes of Rubel Hossain, Kesrick Williams and Mohammad Irfan with the ball. Hossain has eight wickets in his last three games and is in excellent form to justify overlooking Dre Russ. Elsewhere, Kamrul Islam Rabbi is 8.5 credits, and Mehidy Hasan Rana – who could return this time out – has amassed 486 points despite only costing eight credits.

Another three wickets last time out took Rubel Hossain to eight in his last three games and 16 for the tournament. He is consistent and well worth looking at as a potential captain. If you prefer someone on the all-round front, Ravi Bopara and Shoaib Malik fit the billing too. Bopara has scored well in the Dream 11 and could be worth a vice-captain pick.
