Central Stags vs Auckland, Super Smash 2020-21
After thrashing Northern Knights in their previous match, Central Stags will look to continue their winning run as they take on a depleted Auckland in the 6th match of the Super Smash on Thursday. The match will be played on 31st December and is scheduled to begin at 1:40 PM local time.
Central Stags will be over the moon after decimating Northern Knights in their previous game. Batting first, Central District posted a mammoth 223 in their 20 overs thanks to the brilliant knocks of George Worker and Doug Bracewell. Other batsmen like Dane Clever and Josh Clarkson also performed exceptionally well.
In the bowling department, Joey Field continued his good form with the ball and was the pick of the bowers. Doug Bracewell, Blair Tickner and Kieran Noema-Barnett were also pretty decent.
This is a sort of performance we expect from a top class team like central district and it must have sent a strong message to the other teams of the competition.
Talking about Auckland, things are not looking good for them. They’ve now lost two back to back games and desperately need a win to get their campaign back on track.
Auckland have two 170+ scores in both their previous matches thus we can’t say that their batting is not performing well.
Players like Graeme Beghnin, Sean Solia, William O Donnell, Robert O Donnell, Ben Horne have batted pretty well. Also, the addition of Glen Phillips have further boosted their batting.
The only concern for Auckland should be that neither of their players have stayed long enough to get them to a big score. 170 is a good score but just about par. We think they could have easily got 30 more runs in both their games. This is something they’d like to work on.
Danru Ferns has been their best bowler along with William Somerville. Olly Pringle has also bowled well in patches. Glenn Phillips was terrific in the last match. The form of Ben Lister, however will be worrying Auckland. So if you see Auckland have not played bad cricket. It’s just that other teams have been too good on that day.
For us, looking at both teams, we see a lot of quality in them and expect this match to be a very close affair. However, we’d expect Central Stags to win the match as all of their batsmen are in top form.

CS vs AUK Toss Prediction
It’s a bat first wicket thus both captains would want the coin to go in their favour.

The wicket is an absolute belter. Once set, there is plenty to score on this wicket. 200 is just a par score here.

CS Team News
At the time of writing there was no official announcement on weather or not their will be any change in their squad for the game against Auckland. Looking the way they played, we don’t see them tinkering their winning combination.
CS Key Players
- George Worker - A magnificent 71 in the last match must have given a lot of confidence to George Worker. He’s a batsmen that’s been in fine form of late. We expect him to continue his good run in the next game as well.
- Doug Bracewell - Dough Bracewell missed out in the first game but we were sure that he’s going to back among the runs pretty soon, exactly what happened in the last game.
- Joey Field - Joey Field bowled with great control and ended with figured of 2-26 in his last match. We back him to come good against Auckland as well.
CS Team Form
Central District didn’t had a favourable start to the tournament as they’re thrashed by Wellington in their first game. They, however, bounced back in style and decimated Northern Knights in their last game.
George Worker, Bayley Wiggins, Dane Cleaver (wk), Tom Bruce (c), Josh Clarkson, Kieran Noema-Barnett, Doug Bracewell, Christian Leopard, Joey Field, Ajaz Patel, Blair Tickner

AUK Team News
Auckland have announced that they’ll go in with the same squad that took on Otago in Alexandra. With all their players in decent form, we don’t see any change in the playing XI either
AUK Key Players
- Sean Solia - Sea Solia has been terrific in the two matches he’s played. A brilliant 75 in the first match was backed by a solid 30. He’s looking in really good touch and can be backed to carry on his form in the next game.
- Glenn Phillips - Glenn Phillips missed out in the first game but he’s too good a player to fail in back to back matches. We expect him to come good in the next match
- William Somerville - Somerville had a bad game against Otago but we’re pretty sure that he’ll come back harder in the next game. His all round skills will be vary handy for Auckland.
AUK Team Form
Auckland are still searching for their first win of the tournament as they’ve lost back to back games against Wellington and Otago.

Both teams are pretty solid on paper but Auckland batsmen have failed to get themselves to big scores, something that Stags have managed to do. For us, Central Stags are favourites to win the match.
Aucklan must win
