Canterbury vs Wellington, Super Smash 2020-21

Canterbury will take on Wellington in the 17th match of the Super Smash 2020-21. The game will be played on Hagley Oval and is scheduled to begin at 11:10 PM local time.

Canterbury vs Wellington will be the toughest assignment for Canterbury in this tournament. They made easy work of the Northern Knights in the last match but against Wellington, they’ll have to be on their toes if they want to get past the table toppers.

For Canterbury, their top order failed for the third consecutive match which is not a good sign. Once again it was Daryl Mitchell who played a brilliant knock of 69 and helped them get over the line. He got good support from Cole McConchie who remained not out on 56.

Their batting still looks pretty decent but they’d love to see their top order getting runs from them.

In the bowling department, Daryl Mitchell, Matt Henry, Cole McConchie Todd Astle and Will Williams bowled well to restrict the Knights to an average 150-7.

Wellington on the other hand are flying high and are yet to lose a game in the tournament. Finn Allen has been unstoppable and has scored 322 runs in 5 games at an average of 107.33.

Devon Conway, Rachin Ravindra, Tom Blundell, Jimmy Neesham, Michael Bracewell forms a pretty strong batting order.

The bowling has also been top class with Hemish Bennett, Logan van Beek, Jimmy Neesham, Peter Younghusband in decent form. The all rounders have also done a good job.

Both, Canterbury and Wellington have been the two best teams of the tournament and we expect this match to be a close encounter. However, Wellington looks a very balanced team with quality players from top to bottom and are our pick for this game.

CAN vs WEL Toss Prediction

It’s generally a high scoring ground and we think batting first is a good option here

Pitch Report

The pitch is very good for batting. Once set, there are plenty of run scoring opportunities. Also the boundaries are pretty short so a high scoring encounter is on the cards.

The weather looks good with no prediction of rain.

Canterbury Team News & Playing 11

CAN Team News

Canterbury will be playing back to back matches thus they’ll go in with the same squad that took on Northern Knights in their last game. There are few doubts about the participation of Ed Nuttal though.

CAN Key Players

  • Chad Bowes - Bowes started the tournament with two big knocks but have failed in his last three outings. We think that a big innings is due pretty soon.
  • Daryl Mitchell - Daryl Mitchell with his all round skills has been exceptional for Canterbury. He scored a brilliant 69 in the last match and picked up two wickets as well.
  • Toss Astle - Astle picked up a couple of wickets in the previous game. He’s been very consistent with the ball and we think he can be a real threat for Wellington.

CAN Team Form

Apart from a loss against Central Stags, Canterbury have won all their matches in the tournament

  • Jimmy Neesham - Jimmy Neesham has been very good with the ball. He’s a top batsmen as well and if required he can be destructive with the bat.
