Brampton Wolves are favorites to win
Group winners Brampton Wolves face the only team to have beaten them in this season’s Global T20 Canada competition so far, with a place in the final up for grabs in this qualifier match at the CAA Centre. The match takes place on August 8 and the live action starts at 12;30 local time.
The Wolves won their first four group matches, impressing with bat and ball, before coming unstuck against the Vancouver Knights in their most recently completed game (both teams had matches rained off in the second round). The Knights claimed an eight-wicket win in that game.
During their title last season, the Knights had to qualify for the final the hard way – initially losing the equivalent match at this stage 12 months ago. This time, they will want to make lighter work of reaching Sunday’s final.

Vancouver won the toss when these teams last met and elected to field first to great effect. This time, the Wolves are due to win the toss and they put Vancouver in to bat first this time.
There are thunderstorms forecast again in Ontario and, though isolated, Global T20 Canada organisers will be desperate to avoid a repeat of Tuesday’s washout at such a key stage of the competition.
There have been plenty of big scores at Brampton this season and that looks like showing no sign of slowing ahead of this game between the Wolves and the Knights.

First starts for Andre Fletcher and Junaid Siddiqui could not prevent a first defeat of the tournament to Vancouver Knights. Nawab Singh and Shahid Afridi could return in their place. Rohan Mustafa and Zahoor Khan are unavailable still, however – both are with the UAE playing against the Netherlands.
Ish Sodhi: Expensive last time these two teams met, but the New Zealand spinner started the tournament with a five-wicket haul and has 11 in total so far from five matches.
George Munsey: The Scot has hit two half-centuries so far, on his way to 150 runs from five innings – second only to Lendl Simmons in the Brampton team. He has a strike rate of 185.18 too, having not looked back from his phenomenal start to the tournament.
Babar Hayat: Scored 34 against the Knights last time out to move to 119 runs in just three innings. It was the first time he had been dismissed in the tournament too, after blasting an unbeaten 48 in the previous game.
In their debut tournament, Brampton Wolves stormed to the top of the group with four wins in their first four games. They totally dominated against Montreal Tigers first up, beat Edmontonrelatively comfortably in their second game and cruised to victory against Winnipeg too. After an 11-run defeat of Toronto Nationals, however, their excellent form came to a halt – bowled out for 138 on their way to an eight-wicket loss against Vancouver Knights.

Chris Gayle powered Vancouver into this tie, but the Knights will be without their captain and talisman as he is now with the West Indies ODI team facing India. Rassie van der Dussen and Andile Phehlukwayo have already left Canada, with Daniel Sams making a big impression in their place this time. Andre Russell has been back from injury in the last two games, but – after dropping out of the West Indies’ squad to face India – he has played as a batsman only.
Chadwick Walton: With Gayle away, Chadwick Walton needs to step up and replicate the sort of form his fellow West Indian has showed so far. He hit an unbeaten 53 from 45 balls last time out to show he is in good touch.
Daniel Sams: The all-rounder took 4-25 when these teams last met in just his second appearance of the tournament. The left-arm quick will hope to cause similar problems again.
Shoaib Malik: The veteran Pakistani all-rounder is yet to be dismissed in this year’s tournament. His unbeaten 41 against the Wolves last time out was his highest score so far, and he has 103 runs in total. He also took a wicket in his only bowling spell.
Chris Gayle’s brilliant batting form powered the Knights back into form. Though his century against Montreal proved in vain because of the weather forcing a no result, he top-scored in a six-wicket win against Edmonton next up.
That set them up well ahead of their most recently completed game against Brampton – Daniel Sams claiming four wickets as they bowled the Wolves out for 138 and went on to win by eight wickets. The Knights’ second-round match was abandoned.
