Barbados Tridents Team News & Playing 11

Barbados Team News

Veteran batsman Dwayne Smith returned to the Tridents' line-up last time out to open the batting, and is likely to remain at the top of the order for the game against St Lucia Stars. Imran Khan was the man to make way and, despite the defeat, the better balance to the line-up could be preferred by the Tridents this time out.

Barbados Key Players

Shai Hope is the leading run scorer for the Barbados Tridents in this year's competition, with 259 from his seven innings so far. That puts him ahead of some big-name team-mates, including disgraced former Australia captain Steve Smith, who has scored 185 runs in that time.

Martin Guptill was at his big-hitting best against the Jamaica Tallawahs, smashing 73, but that is the big-hitting New Zealander's only innings of note - despite arriving in the Caribbean on the back of a T20 hundred in the English T20 Blast.

Nicholas Pooran top-scored last time out, meanwhile, hitting 46 - his highest score so far in this year's competition - in the defeat to Guyana Amazon Warriors.

With the ball, Wahab Riaz has taken eight wickets in seven games so far, while Mohammad Irfan has taken six. Both men boast decent economy rates too, of less than eight runs per over. Irfans figures were significantly boosted by his stunning return of two wickets for one run from four overs against St Kitts and Nevis.

Barbados Team Form

Barbados Tridents started the 2018 tournament with a win against Guyana Amazon Warriors, with Shai Hope scoring 88 and Raymon Reifer grabbing five wickets. They have only won one game since, however, and none of their four home matches.

After St Lucia's record-breaking feats, in a 38-run defeat for the Tridents, they hit back to beat Jamaica in Florida - winning by just two runs.

Their four home games, however, have all brought defeats so far with the Tridents asked to bat first but failing to post any meaningful targets. Jason Holder scored 54 in a total of 147/6 against St Kitts and Nevis, but - despite Mohammad Irfan bowling 23 dot balls in his 24-ball spell - the Patriots won by six wickets with seven balls to spare.

Irfan impressed in a losing cause again against Trinbago Knight Riders, taking 2-24 as the visitors easily chased Barbados' 128/6 to win by four wickets with 21 balls to spare. Martin Guptill then hit 73 in a total of 151/9 against Jamaica Tallawahs, but they lost by five wickets with 16 balls to spare.

And, last time out, Guyana Amazon Warriors smashed 168/2 to chase Barbados' 165/7 in just 16.4 overs. Nicholas Pooran had earlier top scored with 46 from 27 balls for the Tridents.

St Lucia Stars Team News & Playing 11

St Lucia Stars Team News

While their last match was washed out without the toss even taking place, the previous game saw the Stars change the balance of their line-up - Mark Chapman returning in place of bowler Odean Smith. The New Zealander has struggled for runs, however, and Lendl Simmons - who dropped into the middle order - could open against Barbados. If that happens, Kavem Hodge could return - though he conceded 0/41 against the Tridents when they last met.

St Lucia Stars Key Players

Kieron Pollard hit a century when the Stars beat the Tridents earlier this year, and he tops the CPL run-scoring charts with 330 from eight innings so far. Andre Fletcher hit 80 in that game, and he has 247 so far in this year's tournament.

David Warner has scored 178 runs, including one 72 not out, but Lendl Simmons is the only other St Lucia batsman to pass 100 runs so far in this year's competition - highlighting the lack of batting depth that has caused problems.

Qais Ahmad, Obed McCoy and Kesrick Williams have all claimed seven wickets with the ball, meanwhile, but the leading wicket-taker is Mitchell McClenaghan with eight from eight games - albeit at an expensive economy rate of nine runs per over.

St Lucia Stars Team Form

Having come into the tournament on the back of a losing streak stretching back to 2016, things got off to a bad start for the St Lucia Stars as they were bowled out for just 95 in a 100-run defeat on the opening day.

Defeats to Guyana Amazon Warriors, Jamaica Tallawahs and Trinbago again - the latter despite David Warner's unbeaten 72 helping the Stars post 212/2 from their 20 overs - followed before Kieron Pollard ending the losing streak with his heroics against Barbados Tridents.

Pollard's 104 from 54 balls lifted the Stars to 226/6 from their 20 overs - a CPL record - and the Tridents could only reach 188/6 in reply as Obed McCoy took 3-28.

St Lucia broke another record in their next game - an unwanted on as they recorded the shortest innings in CPL history in being bowled out for 69 in 12.3 overs against St Kitts and Nevis; they lost by seven wickets in just 7.4 overs.

They did beat Guyana Amazon Warriors, however, as Obed McCoy took 2-23 in four overs and Andre Fletcher hit an unbeaten 45 in a six-wicket win, but they fell 21 runs short of Jamaica Tallawahs' 204/5 next up - despite Kieron Pollard hitting 46 from 27 balls.

They were due to play St Kitts and Nevis last time out, but the game at Basseterre was washed out.

St Lucia Stars Predicted Playing 11

Lendl Simmons, Andre Fletcher, Rahkeem Cornwall, David Warner, Kieron Pollard, Darren Sammy, Kavem Hodge, Mitchell McClenaghan, Qais Ahmad, Kesrick Williams, Obed McCoy.

Barbados Tridents vs St Lucia Stars Head to Head

Barbados Tridents have a good record against St Lucia Stars defeat their defeat in Gros Islet last month. The Tridents have won eight of the 11 previous matches between the two, with the Stars winning the other three.

Last time out, however, Kieron Pollard smashed a 54-ball 104 as the Stars broke the CPL record for the highest-ever total. Their score of 226/6 proved 38 runs too much for the Tridents, who reached 188/6 in reply.

Barbados Tridents vs St Lucia Stars Betting Odds

Despite the result last time the two teams met, the Tridents are favourites to beat St Lucia Stars. Bet365 have priced the hosts at 1.72, while Betfair are offering 1.73. Betway are offering the best price of 1.80 on a Barbados win.

St Lucia, by contrast, are a best price of 2.10 to win with Bet365 and Betfair.

Barbados will need their batsmen to fire if they are to win, however, and Martin Guptill – 4.00 to top score for the Tridents with Bet365 – will be key to that. Shai Hope is their top scorer so far, meanwhile, but his lower batting position means he is 6.00 with Betfair to top score.

🏆 Barbados Tridents vs St Lucia Stars Prediction

St Lucia Stars might have won when the two teams last met, but the Tridents have a good record in this fixture. They are in bad form, but St Lucia have lost even more this year and this is a good chance for the hosts to record an overdue win at Bridgetown.

Final Verdict: Back Barbados Tridents to beat St Lucia Stars at 1.72 with Bet365, 1.73 with Betfair and 1.80 with Betway.
