Guyana Amazon Warriors are favorites to win

Who will win Barbados Tridents vs Guyana Amazon Warriors, CPL 2019?

Barbados Tridents’ first home game of the 2019 Caribbean Premier League sees them take on unbeaten league leaders Guyana Amazon Warriors at Bridgetown. The match, at the Kensington Oval, takes place on September 22 and the live action starts at 18:00 local time.

The Tridents have won two of their four games so far, most recently bowling out St Lucia Zouks for 101 in a 71-run win. That is already as many wins as they managed in last season’s tournament.

They are outsiders for this one, however, with Guyana Amazon Warriors in stunning form so far. Most recently, captain Shoaib Malik led the way with an unbeaten 67 from 37 balls as they posted 218/6 against Jamaica Tallawahs before bowling them out for 137 in reply. With five wins from five so far, they will want to continue their perfect form.

BT vs GAW Toss Prediction

Barbados Tridents have lost the toss in their last three consecutive matches so they are due this one. The only team they won the toss against was the Warriors, when they chose to field first. On a batsman-friendly, they may choose to bat first this time.

BT vs GAW Weather Report

Bridgetown is set to be wet on Sunday, with showers forecast all day. The only positive for these teams is the fact there is forecast to be less rain in the evening than earlier in the day, so they may just get a game on.

BT vs GAW Pitch Condition

This is the first match of this year’s tournament at Bridgetown, and so the typically fast and bouncy pitch is to be expected. Since the outfield was relaid, the historic problems on wet days like the one forecast are a thing of the past.

Barbados Tridents Team News & Playing 11

BT Team News

Alex Hales will miss out again, having flown home from Barbados to play for Notts Outlaws in their (unsuccessful) T20 Blast semi-final on Saturday. He was not missed, however – Justin Greaves replaced him at the top of the order and hit a half-century. Raymon Reifer and Joshua Bishop also came into the team, and both could retain their places after bowling well.

BT Key Players

Sandeep Lamichhane: Continued his wicket-taking form with his fifth wicket in four games in the win against St Kitts & Nevis Patriots.

Jason Holder: The West Indies captain has been in excellent form, moving to seven wickets so far after his figures of 2-24 last time out.

Johnson Charles: Stepped up in Alex Hales’ absence last time out, with a brief flurry at the top of the order. He scored 28 from 19 balls, sharing a partnership of 81 with Justin Greaves.

BT Team Form

Barbados Tridents have twice bounced back from defeats to win their next matches, giving them a record of played four, won two. This is their first home game and, after losing by four wickets to Jamaica Tallawahs previously, they go into this game on the back of a big victory against St Lucia Zouks. They posted 172/6 from their 20 overs, with Justin Greaves scoring a half-century, before bowling the Zouks out for just 101 in 14.5 overs.

Barbados Tridents Predicted Playing 11

BT vs GAW Dream11 Prediction

Wicket-keeper

Nicholas Pooran has been inconsistent this season but he can be picked at 9.5 credits. The alternative is Leniko Boucher, at eight credits. Boucher did not bat last time out, but has generally been in good form in his debut season.

Batsmen

With Alex Hales having flown home for T20 Blast Finals Day, Shimron Hetmyer is the better pick of the two batsmen available at ten credits. Johnson Charles has had to step up in Hales’ absence and he is 8.5 credits so good value too. Brandon King and Chandrapaul Hemraj are 8.5 and eight respectively – excellent value considering the impact they’ve had at the top of the order.

All-rounders

Jason Holder and Shoaib Malik starred in the teams’ most recent wins: Holder with the ball and Malik with the bat. Both are in good form in this tournament and well worth picking up for 9.5 credits apiece. That leaves a maximum of just one more all-rounder spot. Keemo Paul has five wickets in his last two games, including a key three-wicket haul last time out, so he is worth selecting.

Bowlers

There are plenty of choices with the ball, but it is three spinners who have stood out so far in particular. Sandeep Lamichhane is a key part of the Barbados Tridents’ bowling attack, while Imran Tahir and Qais Ahmad have made a big impact since their late arrivals for Guyana Amazon Warriors.

Captain/Vice-captain

The all-rounders selected tend to star in only one discipline, but the captains – Shoaib Malik and Jason Holder – are worthy of Dream 11 captaincy too. Holder has seven wickets so far and will find another hard and fast track to bowl on. For Malik, his batting is excellent – but he is perhaps a little low down the order to risk captaincy. Holder for captain, Malik for vice-captain then.

Guyana Amazon Warriors Team News & Playing 11

GAW Team News

Qais Ahmad and Imran Tahir have more than compensated for the early departure of Shadab Khan. Guyana Amazon Warriors welcomed Odean Smith back last time out, and he took a wicket in the win against Jamaica Tallawahs. It could be the same 11 that faces Barbados.

GAW Key Players

Shimron Hetmyer: Bounced back from a couple of low scores by hitting 44 last time out, to move to 148 runs in his five innings so far in CPL 2019. That includes an unbeaten 70* when he starred in the Warriors’ second win.

Shoaib Malik: The Pakistani veteran, and captain of this team, took a wicket when these teams last met but it is with the bat he has found form lately – following up his unbeaten 24 against the Patriots with 67* in the win against Jamaica Tallawahs.

Imran Tahir: The veteran leg-spinner continues to bamboozle, having started this tournament with figures of 2-17 against St Kitts & Nevis Patriots and then 2-21 against Jamaica Tallawahs last time out.

GAW Team Form

Guyana Amazon Warriors’ superb form has showed no sign of slowing as they have stormed to five wins from five games so far to sit top of the Caribbean Premier League table. After starting with three home wins, they have since won away against St Kitts & Nevis Patriots and Jamaica Tallawahs too.

Against the Patriots, Qais Ahmad took 3-28 as they bowled the out for just 121 on their way to a seven-wicket win. Their batsmen then shone last time out – Shoaib Malik taking 67* in a total of 218/6 before they bowled the Tallawahs out for just 137.

Guyana Amazon Warriors Predicted Playing 11

Brandon King, Chandrapaul Hemraj, Shimron Hetmyer, Nicholas Pooran (wk), Shoaib Malik (c), Sherfane Rutherford, Chris Green, Keemo Paul, Qais Ahmad, Imran Tahir, Odean Smith
