BRH vs SYS Betting Tips

  • Sydney Sixers go into this match fresh from becoming just the second team this season to beat table-topping Melbourne Stars.
  • Brisbane Heat, meanwhile, have lost their last two matches after two batting collapses - leaving them sixth and just outside the play-off places but with a game in hand.
  • The Heat did beat Sydney Sixers when they last met, however - Chris Lynn hitting top form with the bat on that occasion.

Our Prediction

Sydney Sixers are favorites to win.

Who will win Brisbane Heat vs Sydney Sixers, BBL 2020?

After beating Melbourne Stars last time out, Sydney Sixers will bid to cement second place in the 2019-20 Big Bash League table – and two shots at reaching the BBL final through the play-offs – when they face Brisbane Heat at the Gabba. The match takes place on January 23 and is scheduled to start at 19:10 local time.

The Sixers’ form had faltered but they became only the second team to beat the table-topping Stars last time out. Moises Henriques starred with the bat in a rain-reduced 14-over game, which served as the perfect response to being bowled out for 76 in their previous game.

Brisbane Heat, meanwhile, have lost their last two matches following bad batting collapses – including losing ten wickets for 36 runs in their most recent game. Their fragile batting has seen them drop out of the play-off places – though they do have a game in hand on the teams above.

BRH vs SYS Toss Prediction

Brisbane have won the bat flip in each of their last two matches, fielding first last time they were at the Gabba. Sydney Sixers might follow suit if they win the toss this time out.

BRH vs SYS Weather Report

Humidity is high and there is some rain forecast in the afternoon in what has been a wet and wild Brisbane lately, with overcast conditions settling in from then on. There is still a 20 per cent chance of rain in the evening.

BRH vs SYS Pitch Condition

A well-balanced wicket, assisting fast bowling and big hitting and, last time out, offering something productive for the spinners too.

Brisbane Heat Team News & Playing 11

BRH Team News

Marnus Labuschagne is available for what could be his only BBL appearance of the season and, given Brisbane’s batting woes in recent matches, it could be a timely arrival. His Big Bash record is not good, but he has taken his batting levels to stratospheric levels in the past 12 months. Sam Heazlett replaced Max Bryant last time out and scored a half-century to justify his inclusion at the top of the order.

BRH Key Players

Chris Lynn: Starred when these teams last met, when he scored 94 in a big Brisbane win. Most recently, the big-hitting opener smashed 41 from 15 balls in an 84-run opening partnership inside six overs.

AB de Villiers: The South African superstar has been unable to showcase his best form on his eagerly-awaited BBL arrival, but he arrived fresh from some top knocks in the Mzansi Super League and his batting record speaks for itself.

James Pattinson: After arriving on the back of Australia’s test success in New Zealand, the big paceman took 5-33 in his first appearance of the season at the Gabba and was tidy enough for 1-31 last time out.

BRH Team Form

A run of four wins in five games lifted the Heat up the table but two batting collapse have resulted in two heavy defeats since. They folded for just 100 in 17 overs against Adelaide Strikers in the first of those games – losing by ten wickets – and then collapsed from 86/0 to 120 all out as they chased 165 to beat Melbourne Renegades last time out. They lost the last seven wickets for seven runs in 16 balls.

BRH vs SYS Dream11 Prediction

Wicket-keepers

Josh Philippe and Jimmy Peirson are the two wicket-keepers to choose from as Tom Banton is no longer with the Heat. Philippe as more than 500 points this season and looks the top choice for the Sixers.

Batsmen

There are some tough choices to be made behind the stumps. Can you really afford to overlook Chris Lynn, AB de Villiers and the returning Steve Smith, even if they cost 30.5 credits between them? If you do pick all three, you may have to swap Daniel Hughes out for someone cheaper, though James Vince is good value at 8.5 credits and Sam Heazlett – who scored a half-century last time out – is only eight credits.

All-rounders

Tom Curran is in excellent wicket-taking form, with 17 to his name so far this season. The other star all-rounders listed include Moises Henriques and Ben Cutting – the former having been the Sixers’ top batsman last time out – but Matt Renshaw is also difficult to overlook at nine credits. The big question is whether to select Marnus Labuschagne at 8.5 credits. His T20 record does not stand up, but his batting form in the other formats is world class.

Bowlers

Given the cost of the players above, it may be that Mujeeb Ur Rahman and Josh Hazlewood are out of reach at nine credits apiece. James Pattinson, Ben Laughlin and Ben Dwarshuis are all 8.5 credits apiece, however, which is good value for each of them. Nathan Lyon and Josh Lalor are also in the 8.5-credit list and worth considering.

Captain/vice-captain

Tom Curran’s wicket-taking form makes him a stand-out choice for captain, particularly as he is capable of runs down the order too. Chris Lynn was the star man when these teams last met and looked back to his best before the Brisbane batting collapse last time out. He could be a worthy gamble at vice-captain, and Steve Smith and AB de Villiers are also in that same category.

Sydney Sixers Team News & Playing 11

SYS Team News

Ordinarily, victory against the team top of the table and in superb form would lead to an unchanged 11 for the following game. But Steve Smith is back, and the Sixers can slot the Australian star straight back into the side, where he will join recently-returned test team-mate Nathan Lyon. Josh Hazlewood is also back, and Jackson Bird – having been expensive last time out – could be the man to make way.

SYS Key Players

Steve Smith: Fresh from scores of 98 and 131 in the final two ODIs of Australia’s series in India, the Sixers will welcome back the former national captain for the end of the BBL season.

Tom Curran: Continued his wicket-taking form as he claimed 2-23 last time out to move to 17 for the season in 11 innings. He ended the day second in the BBL 2019-20 wicket-taking charts.

Nathan Lyon: Took his 50th T20 wicket last time out, in his 40th innings in the format. While his test record dominates his career highlights reel, he is capable of wickets in every format.

SYS Team Form

Sydney Sixers ended their winless streak with a much-needed win in a rain-reduced match against Melbourne Stars last time out. Moises Henriques smashed 72 from 31 balls in a total of 143/4 from a reduced 14 overs, and they limited Melbourne Stars to 125/5 in reply. It was the perfect response to their previous rain-affected match, in which they were bowled out for just 76 as they lost to Sydney Thunder.

Sydney Sixers Predicted Playing 11

Josh Philippe (wk), Dan Hughes, James Vince, Steve Smith, Moises Henriques (c), Jordan Silk, Tom Curran, Ben Dwarshuis, Nathan Lyon, Josh Hazlewood, Steve O’Keefe.
