The two match Test Series between Bangladesh and South Africa commences on 21st July in Chittagong. If the latest performances in One-Day series are anything to go by, then the loyalists of the sport are up for an excellent match if the weather plays along well. In the match that is supposed to be an all together one-sided show favoring the number one ranked South Africa, we cannot expect too many surprises. Although the home side would look forward to create magic with the bat and ball so as to reduce 40-point lead of West Indies but, visitors would be raring to go especially after the humiliating One-Day series loss.
The visitors would be wearing their white jerseys after a long gap of six months, but that does not mean we could label the players to be rustic enough to outperform ninth-ranked Bangla Tigers. As per the words of Coach Russel, the Proteas will yet again prove their supremacy in the upcoming Test match. The team has eight new players and a few experienced ones like Dale Steyn, Morkel and Philander to add to the team's strength. Well, team Bangladesh is also high on confidence after having consecutively beat the likes of India, Pakistan and South Africa in the shorter version of the game. Though the environment is different in the longer format of the game but, then you cannot rule out the possibilities.
In comparison with Bangladesh team does have an edge that they have recently played Test matches against two competitive sides, Pakistan and India. Though the team did not perform considerably well, but Players did gain some experience. AB de Villiers' absence is another major boost for home side. The haphazard play by the top order is a big worry for South Africa and it could really turn things in favor of home side. The key players to watch out for comprise of- Tamim Iqbal, Nasir Hosain and Soumya Sarkar are other players in the line-up.
Since the end of domestic season, the team has not played any Test match, not even a warm-up game. The South African side needs to fill in gap created by retired key player Petersen. Despite the fact that they have nothing to lose in the ICC points table even if they are beaten 2-0, it is quite crucial that the visitors perform to win. The key performers for 1st test would be Hendricks, Dale Steyn and Philander. If the team comes together to cover the loopholes then South African side will surely win the 1st Test Match.
When the two team clash on the cricket field on Tuesday, there are no guesses as to who will lead the way. The weather forecasts though predict rains, which might lead to a draw like situation. This is what the betting odds as per famous punters suggest: Bangladesh: 18, South Africa: 2.04 and Draw: 2.06
