Bangladesh will take on Ireland at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium, Mirpur. The only Test of Ireland’s tour gets underway at 09:30 local time on Tuesday 3rd April.

Bangladesh

Although Bangladesh have dominated Ireland across the ODIs and IT20s over the last couple of weeks, they were beaten by Ireland in Bangladesh for the first time on Friday. However, with far more experience in this format than Ireland, the hosts will be expecting a big winning margin.

BAN Team Batting

Najmul Hossain Shanto and Litton Das were the standout performers for Bangladesh in the white ball series and we are backing both players to enjoy batting against the Ireland bowlers in this Test Match. Shakib Al Hasan has hit five Test centuries and 30 half-centuries.

BAN Team Bowling

On a pitch which is likely to spin a great deal, we expect Shakib Al Hasan to be a big threat for Bangladesh in this Test. He will be well supported by Mehidy Hasan Miraz to make a strong spin attack. The quick bowlers in this Test will be Taskin Ahmed and Ebadot Hossain who have both been in very good form.

BAN Team Form

Although Bangladesh have been in exceptional white ball form, they have not won any of their last nine Tests.

Ireland

After previous defeats to Pakistan in 2018, and against Afghanistan and England in 2019, this will be Ireland’s fourth ever Test Match. Although it has been almost four years since their last game in this format, the Irish players will be excited to perform in the long format once more.

IRE Team Batting

Captain Andy Balbirnie will come back to lead the team after being rested for the IT20 series at the end of March. He is expected to open the batting and could well be joined at the top of the order by PJ Moor, the former Zimbabwean keeper-batter who has played eight Tests and qualified for Ireland in October 2022.

IRE Team Bowling

With Josh Little in the Indian Premier League and Barry McCarthy missing this entire tour, Ireland’s bowling attack will once again be lacking penetration and experience. 20 year old left-arm spinner Matthew Humphreys, who had already made his IT20 and ODI debuts on this tour, will be the main spinning option. 

IRE Team Form

Ireland got their first win on this tour on Friday in the final IT20 but have lost all three of their previous Tests.

This Test match will be played at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium, Mirpur. We expect to see a pitch with low bounce which will turn from Day 2 onwards.
