Our Pick India are favorites to win
What a fabulous tour it has turned out to be. It was Australia that comprehensively defeated India in the ODI series, but India gave back with a thrashing in the T-20Is. But now it’s time for the massive Border-Gavaskar Trophy. This is probably a bigger rivalry than the Ashes today.
India defeated Australia the last time they toured down under but with David Warner and Steve Smith back in whites, Australia look a completely different unit this time around. The series stands of utmost importance for both teams as the winner will occupy the top spot in the ICC Test Championship. Currently, India has the most number of points but Australia with higher win percentage, are settled at the helm of the table.
The injury to David Warner is a big blow to Australia and they now face a stern opening conundrum. Tim Paine has hinted that Matthew Wade is their preferred choice to partner Joe Burns which looks a wise move. Wade was in terrific form in the T-20 series but this is a different challenge altogether. Burns has also not been in the best of nick. There is Travis Head, Tim Paine, possibly Marcus Harris but Australian performance will depend on the form of Marnus Labuschagne and Steve Smith.
Both have been exceptional in Tests. Smith against India averages 84.05 and the number spikes to 129.19 in Australia. This proves how big a threat this man is for India. In the bowling department, Australia has one of the most fearsome set of pacers in Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood and Pat Cummins. Nathan Lyon is an even bigger asset on this wicket. Overall, Australia looks a settled unit but there are certain vulnerabilities in the batting order which India can exploit.
India on the other hand have announced their playing XI and have made some strange choices. They’ve opted for Pritvi Shaw to open with Mayank Agarwal. Shaw isn’t in the best of form and preferring him over KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal is very surprising. However, he’s a good batsmen and would want to capitalize on the opportunity. He’s one batsmen that can score very quicky which can be handy in conditions where it’s difficult to stay on the crease. Also, players like Ajinkya Rajane, Hanuma Vihari, Rishabh Pant, Virat Kohli got plenty of batting practice in the warm up games and form a very strong batting line up.The biggest wicket however, for Australia will be of Cheteshwar Pujara.
Pujara was the stand out performer for India in the previous series and will have to play a big role this time as well. Coming to Indian pace contingent, India is on par with Australia with Mohammed Shami, Jasprit Bumrah and Umesh Yadav as one of the best bowlers going around in this format. Ravichandran Ashwin can also be very handy on this Adelaide wicket.
Overall, both teams look very strong and it’s all set for an enthralling encounter but we think the absence of David Warner has slightly tilted the balance in favour of India.
India tour Australia can be watched live on Sony SIX, Sony TEN 1 and Sony TEN 3 in India. National broadcaster Doordarshan will also telecast the ODI and T-20 series from the tour.

Toss will be very crucial and captains have a tough decision to make. Adelaide is generally a bat first wicket but in a Day Night Test, it’s a different story.
There will be plenty of cloud cover with some rain prediction during the course of 5 days. The temperature is expected to hover around 18 degrees
The surface at Adelaide is traditionally a batting friendly wicket but under lights it’s not going to be easy to bat, especially on Day 1

David Warner’s injury is a big blow to Australia. Matthew Wade is expected to open along with Joe Burns. Also Justin Langer has made it clear that Cameron Green will be the part of the playing XI if he passes the fitness Test.
Australia won the ODI series against India but suffered a humiliating loss in T-20 series.
Matthew Wade, Joe Burns, Steve Smith, Marnus Labuschagne, Travis Head, Tim Paine(C/WK), Cameron Green, Nathan Lyon, Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood
India have already announced their playing XI and it’s very surprising to see Prithvi Shaw getting a nod ahead of Shubhman Gill and KL Rahul. Also, they’ve opted for Wriddhiman Saha instead of Rishabh Pant which is understandable as the ball will wobble under lights and Saha is a better wicket keeper any day. Ravichandran Ashwin will be the only spinner in the team.
India is fresh from a T-20 series victory over Australia. In Tests, they lost their last series to New Zealand.
Prithvi Shaw, Mayank Agarwal, Cheteshwar Pujara, Virat Kohli (C), Ajinkya Rahane, Hanuma Vihari,Wriddhiman Saha (WK), Ravichandran Ashwin, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, Umesh Yadav

Looking at the teams, both are on par with each other. The absence of David Warner is going to hurt Australia. If India can get Smith early, they’ll be in with a great chance.
Wicket-keeper
Matthew Wade at 8.5 is a good pick. Both, Wade was in fine form in the recently concluded white ball series and is expected to carry on their good run.
Batsmen
Virat Kohli at 10.5, Steve Smith at 10.5 , Marnus Labuschagne at 9.0 and Mayank Agarwal at 8.5 will form a strong batting order. Virat Kohli and Steve Smith are the two best batsmen of this generation and you’ll have to take them in your team. Marnus Labuschagne has been exceptional in Test and same can be said about Mayank Agarwal.
All-rounders
Hanuma Vihari at 8.5 is the only all rounder in our team. He scored a magnificent hundred in the warm up game and is in good form. He played well in New Zealand as well.
Bowlers
Jasprit Bumrah, Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood at 9.0 and Mohammed Shami at 8.5 will form a lethal pace quadruplet. All of them have been scintillating in Tests and will enjoy bowling with this pink ball.
Captain/Vice-captain
Steve Smith is our preferred choice for captain while Virat Kohli can be backed as his deputy.
Batsmen:Virat Kohli(VC), Steve Smith(c), Mayank Agarwal, Marnus Labuschagne
All Rounder:Hanuma Vihari
Wicket Keeper:Matthew Wade
