Australia vs England 1st Test Day 1 Highlights
Despite 95 minutes of rain interruption, the opening day of the first Ashes test at the Gabba managed to produce a riveting contest between bat and ball. Winning the toss and electing to bat first, England were hit with the early dismissal of Alastair Cook before a 125-run stand between Mark Stoneman and James Vince put the visitors in a commanding position. But the hosts hurt the batting side thereafter with three quick bursts. England eventually reached stumps at 196/4 with Dawid Malan and Moeen Ali at the crease.

Australia Team News & Playing 11
Day 1 Highlights and Day 2 Preview
Australia went in with three fast bowlers in Josh Hazlewood, Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins and just the one frontline spinner in Nathan Lyon. Shaun Marsh retained his place in the side, keeping allrounder Glenn Maxwell from making a test debut at his home ground. The pick of the bowlers on day 1 was Cummins who took two wickets including the prized scalp of England skipper Joe Root. Lyon could not pick up a wicket but generated good turn off the pitch and the offspinner is likely to continue causing problems for the batsmen on the second day. Australia are expected to bat on day 2 and so the spotlight is going to be on David Warner and Steven Smith as well.

England Team News & Playing 11
Day 1 Highlights and Day 2 Preview
England preferred to go with the experience of Jake Ball over uncapped bowling allrounder Craig Overton for this first Ashes test. James Vince was the standout performer with the bat scoring 83 but missed out on a maiden century. Mark Stoneman provided solid support from the other end with a gritty fifty and helped in laying a nice platform for the batsmen to follow. Moeen Ali and Jonny Bairstow will have a big role to play with the bat on day 2. England could have a crack at the Aussies later in the day with James Anderson expected to swing the new ball and trouble the batsmen before stumps.

Aus vs Eng 1st Test Day 2 Betting Odds
After a gutsy batting display on day 1, the match-winner odds for England have shortened up a bit. The tourists have now gone down from 4 to 3.5 on Betfair and 3.25 on Bet365. Australia with those quick wickets toward the end of day are still the favorites amongst the bookmakers to win this first test match. Their odds however have gone up to 2.08 on Betfair and 2.05 on Bet365. A draw is currently priced at 4.1 and 3.75 on the respective bookmakers.
Australia vs England 1st Test Day 2 Prediction
Australia and England have shared the honours on the first day but the visitors might be a tad happier of the two sides. The hosts were looking flattened when Stoneman and Vince were at the crease but late strikes from Cummins and a brilliant piece of fielding from Lyon to run out the in-form James Vince denied the visitors to run away with the game. The Australian bowlers seemed like getting back into their rhythm toward the end of the day's play and they are expected to come back rejuvenated on day 2 to wrap up the England innings by tea.
Final Verdict: Back Australia to beat England in the first test at 2.08 on Betfair and 2.05 on Bet365.
