Australia Team News & Playing 11

AUS Team News

Australia have confirmed their playing eleven for the series decider and have made a couple of changes from the last game. While off-spinner Nathan Lyon has been dropped, fast bowler Jason Behrendorff has been ruled out with a stiff back. Leg-spinner Adam Zampa and paceman Billy Stanlake come in as the respective replacements. The home team has also included fast bowler Kane Richardson in the squad as a back-up option.

AUS Key Players

Shaun Marsh has continued his terrific ODI form with scores of 54 and 131 in the respective matches of the series, and at the moment, he is undoubtedly the key batsman for Australia. Usman Khawaja and Peter Handscomb cracked fifties in Sydney while Glenn Maxwell also did his bit in the last game. Maxwell scored 96 runs in Australia's last ODI against India at the MCG and he will be looking to replicate that performance. Jhye Richardson and Billy Stanlake will be the two big threats for the Indian batsmen as far as Australia's bowling is concerned. Richardson, who delivered a match-winning performance at the SCG with a four-wicket haul, will be backed by the team to make the early inroads into the Indian batting line-up once again. Stanlake has been impressive in his short international white-ball career and his tall height and express pace could cause problems for the visitors. Marcus Stoinis has a knack of providing breakthroughs at key moments which makes him the one to watch out for in the middle overs.

AUS Recent Form

Australia, after their six-wicket defeat at the Adelaide Oval, have now lost nine of their last eleven one-day internationals. They have done well with the bat in the ongoing series, posting scores of close to 300 in both the matches. Bowling, however, seems to be an area for concern for the hosts. In the first ODI, the Aussies had India pinned to the mat at 4-3 in the fourth over but failed to close the game there itself. And in the last match, they failed to defend a big total of 298.

India Team News & Playing 11

IND Team News

India dropped Khaleel Ahmed in the last match and brought in Mohammed Siraj who had a rather forgettable ODI debut as he leaked 76 runs off his ten overs. The Indian think tank might consider giving all-rounder Vijay Shankar a game at Melbourne as he could provide the team with an extra bowling option. So it will be interesting to see whether they do make a change or stick with the same line-up.

IND Key Players

India have a powerful batting line-up with Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan and Virat Kohli at the top and MS Dhoni anchoring the innings in the middle order. Kohli cracked his 39th ODI ton last time and he hit a century the last time he played against Australia at the MCG in a 50-over game. Rohit, who blasted 133 in the first match, has two half-centuries at this ground while Dhawan too has a hundred and a fifty here. Dhoni is coming off back-to-back fifties and those knocks would have given him a lot of confidence. Mohammed Shami and Ravindra Jadeja have been the pick of the Indian bowlers as far as economy rates are concerned and they will look to keep things tight once again. Bhuvneshwar Kumar retuned impressive figures of 4-45 from ten overs at Adelaide. The seamer now has six wickets in the series and he is more likely to strike early with the new ball. Kuldeep Yadav was not as effective last time as he was in Sydney but he is expected to come up with a better performance this time around.

IND Recent Form

India registered their first ODI win of the year after beating Australia in the second match of the series. They now have four wins in their last five one-day internationals. They suffered a top-order collapse in Sydney but put on a collective batting effort in Adelaide to level the series. Their death bowling has been impressive in both the matches. In the last game towards the tail-end of the Australian innings, the Indian bowlers dismissed four batsmen for just three runs in the space of two overs.

India Predicted Playing 11

Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, Virat Kohli (c), Ambati Rayudu/Vijay Shankar, MS Dhoni (wk), Dinesh Karthik, Ravindra Jadeja, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Shami, Mohammed Siraj/Khaleel Ahmed

Australia vs India Head to Head

Australia and India have now played a total of 120 one-day internationals against each other with the hosts still ahead by 74-46.

At the Melbourne Cricket Ground, the two countries have faced each other 14 times in the fifty-over format with Australia having emerged victorious on 9 occasions.

Australia beat India by three wickets the last time they played an ODI against them at the MCG in January 2016. Having been asked to bat first, the visitors set a stiff target of 296 which the hosts managed to chase down with seven balls to spare.

Matches Played: 120; Australia Won: 74; India Won: 46

Australia vs India Betting Odds

India start off as firm favorites amongst the bookmakers to win the third one-day international. The visitors are being offered at odds of 1.55 on Betway, 1.57 on Bet365 and 1.65 on Betfair. Australia continue to find themselves as the underdogs at a much higher price of 2.30 on Betway, 2.37 on Bet365 and 2.48 on Betfair.

🏆 Australia vs India Prediction

Having lost the last game even after posting a big total would have surely dented Australia's confidence. Most of the Indian batsmen have been in good form of late and the hosts will find themselves in a lot of problems if they are unable to remove India's top three early on. However, their impressive ODI record at the MCG should give the Aussies some hope going into this match. They have won nine of their last eleven matches at this ground and have even beaten India here on the last three occasions. Although Australia have looked a better side in the limited-overs format as compared to the tests, we expect India to win this match and conclude what has been a very successful tour for them.

Final Verdict: Back India to beat Australia in the third ODI at 1.55 with Betway, 1.57 with Bet365 and 1.65 with Betfair.
