Auckland vs Canterbury, Super Smash 2020-21
Auckland have hit a hattrick of losses and desperately need to win to stay alive in the tournament. They're up against a strong Canterbury side who're coming back from a massive win over Otago.
Can Auckland put a brake on this losing streak. Read as we preview Auckland Vs Canterbury match. The game will be played at the Eden Park and is scheduled to get underway at 3:00 PM local time
Auckland will be very disappointed with the way things have transpired for them in the tournament. They've lost 3 back to back games and their future in the tournament look really gloomy now.
They've conceded 219 and 226 in their previous two games which is big concern. Also the batting has been pretty disappointing.
Players like Dean Solia, Graeme Beghin, Robert O Donnell, William O Donnell, Glen Phillips have scored some runs but none of them have stayed long enough to get a big score.
Once you're in, it's your responsibility to get your team to a solid total but the casual approach from the batsmen have cost Auckland three crucial matches.
In the bowling department, Ben Lister and William Somerville have been good but the support bowlers have been far too expensive.
Auckland somehow needs to find a way to stop this flow of runs. If they can restrict their opponents to around 180, we think Auckland have a good enough batting to chase the score. They can also try to bat first and put a decent total.
Canterbury put up a powerful performance against Otago in their previous match and look a real force with player like Chad Bowes, Ken McClure, Jack Boyle, Cole McConchie, Leo Carter and Cam Fletcher. All of their batsmen looked composed and batted with great control.
The bowling was also top class with Ed Nuttall, Cole McConchie, Todd Astle and Will Williams bowling splendidly well.
Overall, Auckland do have a decent batting but their bowling is a big cause of concern. Canterbury on the other hand showed great composure against Otago and are our favourites for this match.
