Our Pick Afghanistan are favorites to win
Afghanistan take on Ireland in the three match ODI series in the UAE. The first match of the series will be played on the Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi and is scheduled to get underway at 9:30 AM local time.
Afghanistan and Ireland have played a lot of cricket against each other in the last couple of years. There most recent assignment was the T-20 series that was played in India in March 2020, which Afghanistan won 2-1.
Afghanistan are playing a full strength squad so they’re not short on the quality. They’ve a decent bating line up in Asghar Afghan, Najibullah Zadran, Usman Ghani, Rahmat Shah, Gulbadin Naib, Rahman ullah Gurbaz and Mohammed Nabi.
Thr trio of Rashid Khan, Mujeeb ur Rahman and Mohammed Nabi will create a lot of trouble for the Irish batsmen. Syed Shiraz and Naveen ul Haq have also showed a lot of promise in the limited amount of cricket they’ve played.
For Ireland, they’ll be disappointed that 2 of the 4 match ODI series against UAE was canceled due to Covid -19. It was a series they were looking as a preparation for this big Afghanistan Test.
They played two matches in the series and delivered satisfactory performance. Paul Stirling, Andy Balbirnie, Harry Tector, Lorcan Tucker, Curtis Campher, Simi Singh, all batted really well. Kevin O Brien was the only batsmen that didn’t perform in the two matches aren’t enough to judge his form.
However, Afghanistan have a far better bowling unit against UAE and we think this Irish batting is going to struggle on this low and slow wickets.
Ireland have plenty of options in the bowling department in Barry McCarthy, Craig Young, Simi Singh, Curtis Campher, Gareth Delany and Andy McBrine.
Overall, both teams are on par with each other but the conditions are going to favour Afghanistan. They’re our picks for the match.
The match will be broadcasted on Premier Sports in UK and Republic of Ireland, Etisalat in UAE, Eurisports in India, Willow TV in USA and Canada.

Toss will be very crucial, more so for Ireland as chasing on these slow wickets against three quality spinners won’t be easy.
The looks good with bright sunshine. The temperature will hover around 23 degrees
The wicket will be flat, good for batting. However, it’ll get slower in the second half of the match.

On paper, both teams are on par but conditions will play a big role in this series. On a low, slow wicket, the trip of Nabi, Rashid Khan and Mujeeb ur Rahman will create a lot of problems for Ireland. We’ll back Afghanistan to win this match.
Wicket Keepers
Rahman Ullah Gurbaz at 8.5 and Lorcan Tucker at 8.0 are good picks from this section. Tucker played a good knock of 42 against UAE in the last match while Gurbaz is a top quality batsmen as well.
Batsmen
Paul Stirling at 10.0, Rahmat Shah at 9.0 and Najibullah Zadran at 9.0 will be our batsmen. Stirling smashed a brilliant 100 in the first ODI against UAE and is Ireland’s mopst experienced player. Rahmat Shah and Najibullah Zadran top quality Afghan batsmen.
All rounder
Mohammed Nabi at 9.5, Curtis Campher at 9.0 and Simi Singh at 8.0 will add depth in our team. Nabi is a world class around and is coming back from a decent BBL. Curtis Campher smashed a 50 in his last game against UAE. SImi SIngh delivered a man of the match performance in the previous match with a half century and a 5-fer.
Bowlers
Rashid Khan at 9.5, Mujeeb ur Rahman and Barry McCarthy at 9.0 will complete our team. Rashid Khan and Mujeeb will get a lot of purchase from this surface while McCarthy is the lead bowler for Ireland
Captain/Vice Captain
Mohammed Nabi can be backed as the skipper while Paul Stirling will be our preferred vice captain
