Who will win Afghanistan vs West Indies 1st T20i?
After West Indies’ 3-0 series whitewash in the ODI leg of this tour, Afghanistan will be out to restore some priced in the T20i fixtures. The first match of the 20-over series takes place at the Ekana Stadium, Lucknow, on November 14 and the live action starts at 19:00 local time.
While they were outplayed in the ODIs, Afghanistan do at least have the knowledge they sit above West Indies in the T20i world rankings. They also boast the top bowler (Rashid Khan) and the top all-rounder (Mohammad Nabi) in the world according to the ICC’s T20i rankings.
But West Indies were in outstanding form in the ODI series and have many players coming into this series on the back of excellent performances at the Caribbean Premier League. With that in mind, they remain favourites to continue the fine form they have showed so far on this tour.

Afghanistan Team News
Rashid Khan leads a T20i squad which bears a lot of resemblance to that used in the ODI series. The biggest change will be behind the stumps, where Rahmanullah Gurbaz will take the gloves – Ikram Alikhil is not in the T20i squad.
Afghanistan Key Players
Rashid Khan: Still ranked the number one T20i bowler in the world, the Afghanistan captain will be keen to get back to his best form now.
Mujeeb Ur Rahman: Took seven wickets in the Bangladesh Tri-Nation Series, Afghanistan’s most recent T20i action prior to this series.
Hazratullah Zazai: Finished the ODI series with a much-needed half-century and is now back playing his preferred format. The 21-year-old, from ten T20 internationals to date, has a strike rate of 173.43.
Afghanistan Team Form
Afghanistan’s unbeaten streak in T20i cricket came to an end in their most recent series – a Tri-Nation Series with Bangladesh and Zimbabwe. They beat both teams in the first set of fixtures, but then lost both matches in the second round. With the final washed out, it meant they finished second.
Afghanistan Predicted Playing 11
Rahmanullah Gurbaz (wk), Hazratullah Zazai, Asghar Afghan, Najibullah Zadran, Mohammad Nabi, Karim Janat, Gulbadin Naib, Rashid Khan (c), Sharafuddin Ashraf, Fareed Ahmad, Mujeeb Ur Rahman
West Indies Team News & Playing 11
West Indies Team News
Brandon King made his ODI debut in the final game of the 50-over series and is likely to play in the T20i series too, after his fine form in the Caribbean Premier League. Hayden Walsh Jr was also in excellent form in that tournament, as was Lendl Simmons, and all three could feature in this game. Shai Hope is not part of the T20i squad, while Nicholas Pooran has been hit with a four-game ban after being caught ball tampering in the third ODI. Denesh Ramdin could take his place behind the stumps.
West Indies Key Players
Evin Lewis: The big-hitting opener was a little subdued in the Caribbean Premier League, particularly towards the end. In T20i cricket, however, he has four half-centuries and two hundreds and boasts a strike rate of 159.35.
Brandon King: Handed his international chance thanks to his incredible T20 form in the Caribbean Premier League last month. He hit 496 runs in 12 innings in that series, with a strike rate just shy of 150.
Hayden Walsh Jr: Another called up on the back of excellent form in the CPL, where he took 22 wickets to lead Barbados Tridents to victory. The former USA international took four wickets in the ODI series to announce himself for the West Indies too.
West Indies Team Form
West Indies will be looking to end their T20i losing streak, having lost all three games of their last two series. They suffered 3-0 whitewashes against both India and England, with their last win away to Bangladesh last winter.
West Indies Predicted Playing 11
Evin Lewis, Lendl Simmons, Brandon King, Denesh Ramdin (wk), Shimron Hetmyer, Kieron Pollard (c), Jason Holder, Khary Pierre, Hayden Walsh Jr, Sheldon Cottrell, Alzarri Joseph
