Afghanistan Team News & Playing 11

AFG Team News

Afghanistan have been unchanged for their two matches so far and will have had no complaints about their bowling performance last time out. They will have to make at least one change, however, after Mohammad Shahzad was ruled out of the tournament due to injury. Ikram Ali Khil will replace him. There may be other changes on the batting front, however, after their two opening defeats. Noor Ali Zadran and Asghar Afghan are waiting in the wings if so. Promoting Najibullah Zadran up the order is another option.

AFG Key Players

Mohammad Nabi turned the screw against Sri Lanka last time out and, but for the rain delay that halted their momentum, Afghanistan might have gone on to win. Nabi claimed 4-30 from nine overs, backed up by superstar Rashid Khan’s 2-17.

Both have blazed a trail for Afghan stars in global cricket, starring across the globe, and both can score runs on their day too.

Afghanistan’s top batsman so far, however, has been Najibullah Zadran – who hit 51 against Australia and 43 against Sri Lanka.

Hazratullah Zazai showed flashes of his best form last time out, hitting 30 at the top of the order. Rahmat Shah and Hashmatullah Shahidi have been in good batting form recently as well.

AFG Team Form

Afghanistan have lost both of their opening games at the World Cup, falling short with the bat on both occasions. Against Australia, they lost both openers inside eight balls and eventually fell to 207 all out and a seven-wicket loss despite Najibullah Zadran’s half-century lifting them to a more competitive score.

Last time out, meanwhile, Mohammad Nabi’s 4-30 sparked a Sri Lankan batting collapse from 144/1 to 201 all out but again the batsmen fell short. Najibullah’s 43 was the top score as Afghanistan fell to 152 all out.

Afghanistan Predicted Playing 11

Hazratullah Zazai, Noor Ali Zadran, Rahmat Shah, Ikram Ali Khil (wk), Najibullah Zadran, Hashmatullah Shahidi, Gulbadin Naib (c), Mohammad Nabi, Rashid Khan, Dawlat Zadran, Hamid Hassan

New Zealand Team News & Playing 11

NZ Team News

New Zealand stuck with the same team that beat Sri Lanka to face Bangladesh last time out, after Colin Munro and Matt Henry had started the tournament ahead of injured duo Henry Nicholls and Tim Southee. After becoming the first team to win back-to-back games at this tournament, they may be unchanged again.

NZ Key Players

Matt Henry has claimed seven wickets already, following up his 3-29 against Sri Lanka with 4-47 against Bangladesh. Lockie Ferguson has taken four across the two games and bowled economically, while Trent Boult – the second-best bowler in the ODI rankings – took 1-44 and 2-44.

With the bat, Martin Guptill hit 73* from 51 balls in the first game and blasted 25 from 14 last time out. Ross Taylor top-scored, however, continuing his fine ODI form with a measured 82. Taylor has climbed to third in the world rankings – the highest-placed non-Indian – with that his ninth ODI 50 (along with three centuries) since the start of 2018.

Kane Williamson hit 40, meanwhile, after back-to-back half centuries in the warm-up matches.

NZ Team Form

New Zealand have started the tournament in excellent form, becoming the first team to win back-to-back games so far. Matt Henry and Lockie Ferguson helped bowl Sri Lanka out for 136 in their first game, before Martin Guptill and Colin Munro helped New Zealand to a ten-wicket win.

And, last time out, four more Henry wickets helped restrict Bangladesh to 244 – a total New Zealand eventually knocked off with two wickets and 17 balls remaining. Ross Taylor was the mainstay of the innings with 82.

New Zealand Predicted Playing 11

Martin Guptill, Colin Munro, Kane Williamson (c), Ross Taylor, Tom Latham (wk), Jimmy Neesham, Colin de Grandhomme, Mitchell Santner, Matt Henry, Trent Boult, Lockie Ferguson

Afghanistan vs New Zealand Betting Odds

New Zealand were already favourites for this one without their respective form at the start of the tournament. Now, they are 1.13 to win with Betway and 1.16 with Bet365. Betway are offering 5.50 on an Afghanistan win.

Ross Taylor’s fine batting form has been central to New Zealand’s good form over the past 18 months and he is a generous 4.50 to be their top batsman with Bet365. Martin Guptill is worth backing at 4.33 too, after his good start to the tournament.

Matt Henry has starred with the ball, meanwhile, and Bet365 are offering 4.50 on him being their top bowler again. Trent Boult is 3.75 and Lockie Ferguson is 5.00.

For Afghanistan, Mohammad Nabi was their star bowler last time out and he is 5.50 to do so again with Bet365. Rashid Khan remains the lowest-priced of their bowlers. He is 3.25 with Betway.

Afghanistan need their batting to improve, and Nabi is 1.90 to score over 38.5 performance points.

Their star batsman so far has been Najibullah Zadran and yet he is 11.00 with Bet365 to be their top batsman for a third consecutive game. Hazratullah Zazai and Rahmat Shah are all 4.50 by contrast, though the former can be backed at 4.75 with Betway too.

🏆 Afghanistan vs New Zealand Prediction

New Zealand have made a perfect start to the World Cup 2019 so far and, while tougher tests lie ahead, Afghanistan’s form suggests they will not provide one of them. The Black Caps can make it three wins from three.
