Who will win Adelaide Strikers vs Perth Scorchers Semi Final, WBBL 2019?

Second-placed Adelaide Strikers and third-placed Perth Scorchers go head-to-head at Allan Border Field, Brisbane, in the first semi-final of WBBL|05. The match takes place on December 7 and is scheduled to start at 10:10 local time.

The Strikers were one of the form teams during the league phase, winning six matches in a row to book their play-off place thanks to Sophie Devine’s incredible all-round form. They lost their most recent game, however – a result which ultimately cost them top spot.

Perth Scorchers, meanwhile, finished on a high – their win against Hobart Hurricanes, with Meg Lanning smashing a century, ensuring they go into the semi-finals in top form – on the back of four wins in their final five games. They will, however, be without England wicket-keeper-batsman Amy Jones.

ADSW vs PRSW Toss Prediction

Adelaide Strikers finally won a toss in their most recent game, and then went and lost. Perhaps they are better off losing the toss – in which case, the Scorchers may elect to field first in Brisbane.

ADSW vs PRSW Weather Report

Brisbane will be hot, clear and sunny all day with temperatures in the 30s and zero chance of rain on the forecast. There could be a bit of wind, however, keeping the humidity down.

ADSW vs PRSW Pitch Condition

Allan Border Field has tended to favour the slower bowlers so far this season, with all but one of the games at the ground proving to be relatively low scoring.

Adelaide Strikers Women Team News & Playing 11

ADSW Team News

Lauren Winfield is unavailable for Adelaide Strikers due to England commitments, while Stafanie Taylor – who was due to replace her – is unavailable due to injury. Darcie Brown as replaced her in the squad, while Alex Price is pushing for a recall after being replaced by Annie O’Neil last time out.

ADSW Key Players

Sophie Devine: While it proved in vain last time out, the New Zealander still smashed her ninth half-century of the tournament to move to 699 runs this season, having earlier taken her 16th wicket too.

Sarah Coyte: Claimed 2-27 last time out, having starred when the Strikers beat the Scorchers in Brisbane earlier this season. She finished the league phase with 17 wickets in total.

Tahlia McGrath: Led the Strikers to victory when these two teams last met at this venue, and the all-rounder finished the league phase with four wickets in her last two matches too.

ADSW Team Form

Adelaide Strikers’ six-match winning streak, at the heart of which was Sophie Devine’s fine form, came to an end in the final match of the league phase. Devine hit 60 from 38 balls in a pursuit of 178 to beat Sydney Sixers, but the Strikers could only reach 164/7 as they had to settle for second place.

ADSW vs PRSW Dream11 Prediction

Wicket-keepers

Now Amy Jones is unavailable, the choice behind the stumps is a simple one – Georgia Redmayne for the Scorchers or Tegan McPharlin for the Strikers. Redmayne was pushed up the order last time out and so could be good value at 8.5 credits but McPharlin is 0.5 credits cheaper and that could be important given the need to afford some of the top performers.

Batsmen

Meg Lanning signed off with a century last time out, and the Australia captain is 11 credits. With Jones and Nat Sciver now absent, however, she is the key batsmen for the Scorchers. Nicole Bolton opened with her last time out and her and Suzie Bates, who can both bowl too, can be picked up for 9.5 credits apiece. Unfortunately, the need to balance cost again counts against them, however. Bridget Patterson is better value at 8.5 credits, while Katie Mack is just 7.5 credits. She has 150 points this season, and so is not a bad option for saving credits.

All-rounders

Sophie Devine’s cost keeps going up but her form keeps getting better. Her outstanding batting in the league phase was central to the Strikers’ success and she picked up 15 wickets too. Of the other all-rounders, Heather Graham has 15 wickets for the Scorchers, while Kim Garth was promoted to number three last time out and is a useful bowler too. Both are nine credits apiece. Tahlia McGrath starred the last time these teams met in Brisbane and finished the league phase in good bowling form, meanwhile. She is 9.5 credits and could also be worth picking up.

Bowlers

That leaves 25 credits for the bowlers, ruling out Megan Schutt as a result, but there is still some good value to be found. Sarah Coyte is the Strikers’ leading wicket-taker this season and yet is just 8.5 credits, while Amanda-Jade Wellington can be picked up at the same price. That leaves eight credits and a choice between Taneale Peschel and Samantha Betts.

Captain/vice-captain

Sophie Devine continues to blow away everybody the Strikers have faced. Her batting form is excellent and her bowling has been more than useful too. She is the obvious captain choice. For vice-captain, Meg Lanning highlighted her importance to the Scorchers with a half-century last time out and Sarah Coyte is in the wickets, but Heather Graham is worth backing as another useful all-rounder.

Perth Scorchers Women Team News & Playing 11

PRSW Team News

Perth Scorchers are without England pair Amy Jones and Nat Sciver for the semi-final and potential final due to international commitments. Nicole Bolton opened in place of Jones last time out, while Kim Garth was pushed up the batting order and Mathilda Carmichael and Kath Hempenstall came into the team. It could be an unchanged team for the semi-finals after their win last time out.

PRSW Key Players

Meg Lanning: Finished the group stage with a century in the final match – hitting 101 from 67 balls and sharing a 154-run stand with Nicole Bolton. She has scored 530 runs so far this season.

Nicole Bolton: Has a big task stepping up the order to replace Amy Jones, but her 44 last time out – in a 154-run opening partnership – proved her credentials. She then opened the bowling and took a wicket with her second ball too.

Heather Graham: The all-rounder was not needed with the bat last time out, but she did then claim her 15th wicket of the season on her way to figures of 1-23, which she complemented with two catches.

PRSW Team Form

Perth Scorchers beat Hobart Hurricanes thanks to Meg Lanning’s 101 in the final game, ensuring they finished the group stage with four wins from five matches. The Scorchers posted 167/4 and restricted the Hurricanes to 132/6 in reply. Lanning also top-scored in their previous win against Sydney Sixers, hitting 82 as they chased 165 to claim victory.

In between, however, they collapsed to 107 all out against the Hurricanes and lost by six wickets.
