Adelaide Strikers Team News & Playing 11

ADS Team News

Adelaide Strikers will welcome back captain Travis Head, who has been cleared to return for the final game after the conclusion of Australia’s test series with Sri Lanka. He will slot straight in for Colin Ingram, with the South African – who stood in as captain in Head’s absence – cleared to return home early for family reasons.

Peter Siddle already returned last time out, meanwhile, after not being selected in the Australian XI for either test match. He replaced Wes Agar in the Strikers’ team.

ADS Key Players

With their leading run scorer in this year’s tournament, Colin Ingram, departing, Adelaide Strikers will be hoping the return of captain Travis Head boosts their top order. He scored 43 against Melbourne Stars in a rare appearance earlier in the tournament and was in fine form in the tests for Australia – his three innings producing scores of 84, 161 and 59*.

Adelaide’s opening pair have also showed signs of their best form in BBL 2018/19 season, not least in the win against Hobart Hurricanes. Alex Carey hit 54 and Jake Weatherald 82 from 42 balls in that game. Weatherald has 319 run from 13 innings and Carey 302 from 11, with both having scored three half-centuries.

Jon Wells has quietly chipped away in the middle order, meanwhile. He has 290 runs at an average of 41.42 despite not yet passing 50.

With the ball, Rashid Khan’s wicket against Brisbane Heat last time out was his 17th for the season, while Peter Siddle has six in five appearances.

ADS Team Form

Adelaide Strikers have won just one of their last six games, failing to score enough runs or take enough wickets during a miserable run of form – despite being defending champions.

The bad run started when they were bowled out for 97 against Sydney Thunder, despite Colin Ingram scoring 48 on his own, and that 71-run defeat was followed by a ten-wicket loss to Hobart Hurricanes despite more Ingram runs in a total of 154/5.

The Strikers only managed two wickets against Melbourne Stars next up, before being bowled out for 123 in reply to the Stars’ 167/2, and their total of 124/8 in their next game, against Sydney Sixers, was also well below par in an eight-wicket defeat with 35 balls still to bowl.
Adelaide managed to end their losing streak against the league leaders, Hobart Hurricanes, as Alex Carey (54) and Jake Weatherald (82) shared a 116-run opening partnership to help chase 170 to win. The Strikers got home with seven wickets and 2.1 overs to spare.

The form did not last, however, as despite setting 176/8 against Brisbane Heat last time out, the Heat stormed to victory by six wickets with eight balls to spare.

Perth Scorchers Team News & Playing 11

PRS Team News

Shaun Marsh will not feature for the Perth Scorchers having reported a tight hamstring – with Australia wanting him back in the one-day squad to tour India, he will not be risked. Jhye Richardson is the only BBL player from Australia’s test squad not cleared to play either. Marsh’s absence could mean a final farewell for Michael Klinger, who is set to retire, or an opportunity for a young player such as Fraser Hay.

PRS Key Players

Ashton Turner’s fine season continued last time out when he scored 69 from 42 balls to help the Scorchers to victory against Melbourne Stars. He has now scored 378 runs in this year’s tournament, with that his third half-century.

Cameron Bancroft’s unbeaten 44 from 27 balls also continued his good season since returning from a ball-tampering ban and moved him to 276 runs in ten innings.

Mitchell Marsh will want to sign off by making a statement to the Australia selectors after a difficult few months with the bat, meanwhile.

With the ball, Nathan Coulter-Nile took three wickets last time out to move to 12 wickets so far, while Andrew Tye’s 2-36 takes him to 16 in total. Jason Behrendorff was wicketless against Melbourne Stars but did bowl 13 dot balls to return figures of 0-18 from four overs. Matt Kelly recorded his personal best bowling figures of 3-31, meanwhile and he now has seven wickets in his last three games.

PRS Team Form

Perth Scorchers ended a four-match losing streak by beating Melbourne Stars last time out. Ashton Turner (69) and Cameron Bancroft (44*) helped them to 182/3 from their 20 overs, before Nathan Coulter-Nile and Matt Kelly each took three wickets as they restricted the Stars to 155/9.

The losing streak had previously stared when they failed to defend 177/9 against Hobart Hurricanes – losing by four wickets in the final over and never really recovering. Another last-over defeat followed to Sydney Thunder despite Shaun Marsh’s unbeaten 96 in a total of 181/4; the Thunder won by four wickets with four balls left.A miserable batting performance against Melbourne Renegades followed, collapsing to 12/4 after six overs and eventually being bowled out for 79 to lose by 78 runs, and they did not fare much better against Brisbane Heat – their total of 128/9 always below par as they lost by six wickets.

The win against Melbourne Stars gives them a chance to avoid last place, however.

Perth Scorchers Predicted Playing 11

Josh Inglis, Cameron Bancroft, Mitchell Marsh, Ashton Turner, Fraser Hay, Nick Hobson, Cameron Hinchcliffe, Nathan Coulter-Nile, Andrew Tye, Matt Kelly, Jason Behrendorff

Adelaide Strikers vs Perth Scorchers Head to Head

Perth Scorchers win on Boxing Day, after bowling Adelaide Strikers out for just 88, was their eighth win in 13 previous games against them. It was also the Scorchers’ fourth win in a row in this fixture having beaten them in both games last season too.

On Boxing Day, the Strikers collapsed from 33/1 to 46/7 as Jason Behrendorff (2-16), Jhye Richardson (3-7 from three overs) and Andrew Tye (2-9 from 2.2 overs) all bowled economically and took wickets. There were 63 dot balls bowled out of the 17.2 overs the Strikers faced on their way to 88 all out. In reply, Will Bosisto was unbeaten on 36 from 34 balls and Ashton Turner played a very patient 24 to avoid dramas in a seven-wicket win.

Adelaide Strikers vs Perth Scorchers Betting Odds

Despite their poor record in this fixture and poor run of form, Adelaide Strikers are favourites to beat Perth Scorchers at a best price of 1.80 with Betfair. The Scorchers could be worth backing at 2.10 with Bet365 and 2.00 with Betfair, however.

Ashton Turner and Cameron Bancroft helped the Scorchers to a big total last time out and, on a batsman’s wicket, Bancroft is 4.00 with Betfair to be their top batsman again. Turner is 4.33.

For the Strikers, they will not have Colin Ingram playing but Travis Head does return and he is 4.50 to be the Strikers’ top batsman with Bet365. Opening pair Jake Weatherald and Alex Carey are both 4.33 each.

🏆 Adelaide Strikers vs Perth Scorchers Prediction

Perth Scorchers got back to winning ways last time out and, with a good record against Adelaide Strikers, they can finish a disappointing campaign on a high note.
