Adelaide Strikers Team News & Playing 11

ADS Team News

Peter Siddle, Alex Carey and Billy Stanlake have now linked up with the Australian ODI squad and are therefore unavailable but Travis Head’s surprise omission from that squad is a boost – he is set to make his Strikers return instead. Cameron Valente returned in place of Jake Lehmann last time out, but both Lehmann and Ben Laughlin – who also missed that game – could come in for the international absentees. That said, in order to balance the pace attack, one of Valente or Lehmann could miss out for David Grant or Nick Winter.

ADS Key Players

While Adelaide will undoubtedly miss Carey at the top of the order, in opening partner Jake Weatherald they boast one of the top run scorers in the competition so far – his 50 from 40 balls against Sydney Sixers was his second half-century and took him past 200 runs.

Captain Colin Ingram has lacked consistency but he showed how good he can be when he thumped 75 from 43 balls – including six sixes – in the win against Sydney Thunder, while the return of Travis Head adds more quality to that top order. Head has a point to prove after being omitted from the Australian ODI squad to face India.

With the ball, Peter Siddle and Billy Stanlake will be missed, but they still possess their chief spin bowler – the outstanding Rashid Khan. The Afghani leggie took 2-25 from his four overs against Sydney Sixers and now has ten wickets in six games, as well as an absurdly low economy rate of just 4.91 runs per over.

ADS Team Form

Adelaide Strikers had bounced back from two consecutive defeats after their opening night win, by winning two in a row. Colin Ingram (75) and Alex Carey (59) led the batting as they posted 175/4 on their way to a 20-run win against Sydney Thunder before Jake Weatherald’s 71 lifted them to 158/6 and a 32-run victory against Melbourne Renegades.Weatherald hit his second consecutive 50 last time out, against Sydney Sixers, but the total of 150/5 proved below par. Despite Rashid Khan’s 2-25 from four overs, the Sixers strolled home to win by six wickets with ten balls to spare.

Adelaide Strikers Predicted Playing 11

Travis Head, Jake Weatherald, Colin Ingram, Matthew Short, Jon Wells, Cameron Valente, Michael Neser, Rashid Khan, Ben Laughlin, Liam O Connor, Nick Winter.

Melbourne Stars Team News & Playing 11

MLS Team News

Melbourne Stars are without five key players for the game against Adelaide Strikers. Sandeep Lamichhane has already departed for his stint in the Bangladesh Premier League, while PeterHandscomb, Marcus Stoinis, Glenn Maxwell and Adam Zampa are in the Australian ODI squad. Liam Plunkett is the overseas replacement for Lamichhane, while the return of Nic Maddinson from injury has offset some of the blow of losing their international quartet. Maddinson captained the team against Perth Scorchers last time out, while Tom O’Connell has been added to the squad and Nick Larkin – initially an injury replacement for Maddinson – has also been retained. O’Connell and Jackson Bird were the two unused players last time out, with Jackson Coleman still unavailable too.

MLS Key Players

Hit by so many unavailable players, Ben Dunk stepped up for the Stars last time out – hitting his highest score of the tournament this year with 62 from 47 balls at the top of the order. He and Evan Gulbis (37) put on 65 for the first wicket, in 8.4 overs.

Runs in the middle order were what was lacking, though Nic Maddinson is back from injury just in time – he was in superb batting form before fracturing his arm in December and will be looking to add to his ten T20 50s.

All-rounders Dwayne Bravo and Liam Plunkett also have runs and wickets in them. Bravo took 2-18 in the defeat to Perth Scorchers, while Plunkett has taken a wicket in each game since replacing Sandeep Lamichhane as the second overseas player. Bravo now has nine wickets from six games in total.

MLS Team Form

After back-to-back defeats at the start of the campaign in BPL 2018-19, Melbourne Stars were in resurgent form until being hit by a number of international call-ups.

Jackson Coleman took 3-19 and Peter Handscomb smashed 70 from 35 balls in a five-wicket win against Sydney Sixers – the Sixers posting just 130/9 and the Stars reaching that target with 5.1 overs to spare.

That was followed by a derby win against Melbourne Renegades on New Year’s Day – Dwayne Bravo taking 3-27 and Marcus Stoinis leading the chase of 150 with 78 from 49 balls in a seven-wicket win. And they followed that up by chasing 136 to beat Sydney Thunder by eight wickets with 2.4 overs remaining – Glenn Maxwell posting an unbeaten 41 from 31 balls – to continue their resurgent form.

Last time out, without their international stars, however, they crashed to a six-wicket defeat to Perth Scorchers, despite Ben Dunk’s 47-ball 62. Dwayne Bravo claimed 2-18 from three overs but the Scorchers reached their 147 target with 2.2 overs remaining.

Melbourne Stars Predicted Playing 11

Ben Dunk, Evan Gulbis, Nic Maddinson, Jonathan Merlo, Seb Gotch, Dwayne Bravo, Nick Larkin, Liam Plunkett, Scott Boland, Liam Bowe, Michael Beer
