Our Prediction

Adelaide Strikers are favorites to win.

Who will win Adelaide Strikers vs Melbourne Renegades, BBL 2020?

Adelaide Strikers will look to get back to winning ways when they take on struggling Melbourne Renegades at the Adelaide Oval. The Big Bash League 2019-20 fixture takes place on January 12 and starts at 15:40 local time.

The Strikers have lost their last three matches, including back-to-back defeats to Sydney Sixers. Rashid Khan took a hat-trick in the most recent of those – a low-scoring game at the Adelaide Oval – but the Sixers won by two wickets.

Melbourne Renegades, meanwhile, suffered their eighth defeat in eight games this season – despite having come into the tournament as defending champions. They could not defend 168/7 against Melbourne Stars last time out, while their poor form also includes their 18-run defeat when these teams last met.

ADS vs MLR Toss Prediction

Adelaide Strikers lost the bat flip at the Adelaide Oval last time out, so they will be keen to win this one and may look to field first this time.

ADS vs MLR Weather Report

Adelaide will be hot, sunny, clear and dry once again for Sunday’s match.

ADS vs MLR Pitch Condition

Adelaide Oval’s hard wicket tends to favour batsmen and their strokeplay, but the bowlers got something out of it last time too.

Adelaide Strikers Team News & Playing 11

ADS Team News

Travis Head could slot straight in form Alex Carey, while Harry Nielsen is set to take over wicket-keeping duties. Peter Siddle and Michael Neser have already returned from international duty, with the former quitting test cricket.

ADS Key Players

Jake Weatherald: Scored 47 in the match against Sydney Sixers to move top of the Strikers’ all-time BBL run-scoring charts.

Rashid Khan: A brilliant hat-trick and figures of 4-22 last time out means he now has 12 wickets in the tournament. He also claimed 2-15 and hit 25 runs against the Renegades.

Peter Siddle: May feel he has something to prove after being unable to put the brakes on the Sixers’ innings late on last time out. He has seven wickets this season in six appearances.

ADS Team Form

Adelaide Strikers have lost their last three matches, having been unbeaten before that. The last two defeats have come against Sydney Sixers – failing to defend 176/6 in a seven-wicket defeat at Coffs Harbour and then losing a low-scoring match last time out. The Strikers, thanks to Rashid Khan’s hat-trick, looked like they could defend 135 all out but the Sixers got home with two wickets and eight balls to spare.

ADS vs MLR Dream11 Team Prediction, Captain, Vice Captain

Wicket-keepers

Choices are limited with Alex Carey away, but Sam Harper at eight credits could be a bargain – particularly in light of his innings against Perth Scorchers.

Batsmen

Two experienced heads at the top of their respective orders are worth backing with the bat – Jake Weatherald for the Strikers and in-form Shaun Marsh for the Renegades. Jonathan Wells has also batted well for Adelaide this season, while Beau Webster will be important for the Renegades as they look to get back to winning ways even without Aaron Finch. Marcus Harris is another to consider, after he slotted in for Finch at the top of the order last time out.

All-rounders

Travis Head is available again and could make his first appearance – though the Strikers have made clear they are not rushing him back. You have plenty of credits to play with however, and can afford Dan Christian and Michael Neser with him.

Bowlers

Rashid Khan took a hat-tick last time out and starred when these teams last met too. At 9.5 credits, he is excellent value. Peter Siddle leads the Strikers’ pace attack, meanwhile. That leaves one bowling space, and Richard Gleeson’s inconsistent form means Cameron Boyce might be a safer choice.

Captain/vice-captain

Rashid Khan was back to his best last time out, with a brilliant hat-trick, and the Afghan spinner will hope that is the platform from which he kicks back on after a little dip in form. He did star when these teams last met though. For vice-captain, his team might be woefully out of form but Shaun Marsh is not – his batting form makes him a worthy contender.

Melbourne Renegades Team News & Playing 11

MLR Team News

With no Aaron Finch or Kane Richardson, Melbourne Renegades had Marcus Harris at the top of the order last time out and Tom Cooper and Joe Mennie came into the team. Samit Patel has replaced Harry Gurney as an overseas player, meanwhile.

MLR Key Players

Shaun Marsh: Another excellent innings last time out, hitting 63 from 43 balls, means he is just 27 short of 6,000 T20 runs. He has scored 298 of those in this year’s tournament.

Marcus Harris: Pushed up the order to open last time out, the left-hander scored 42 and shared a useful partnership with Shaun Marsh.

Richard Gleeson: With Gurney and Richardson out, he needs to offer something with the ball. He took four wickets across the two games with the Sixers but he has been expensive too.

MLR Team Form

Melbourne Renegades have now lost eight matches in a row, failing to defend 175/5 against Perth Scorchers and 168/7 against Melbourne Stars last time out. Sam Harper hit 73 from 46 balls in the former, while Shaun Marsh scored 63 from 43 in the latter, but their bowling just simply has not stacked up.
