Sydney Thunder are favourites to win

ADS vs SYT prediction & Betting Tips, BBL 2020-21

The winner of the Adelaide Strikers vs Sydney Thunder match in the 2020-21 Big Bash League will be guaranteed a play-off place, as the two teams become the first to complete their group-stage campaigns. They meet at the Adelaide Oval on January 25 and the live action starts at 19:15 local time.

Adelaide Strikers lifted themselves above Sydney Thunder in the table last time out, having successfully defended 159/6 to win by six runs in their first of these two back-to-back games. Peter Siddle’s economical bowling was key. It means they are one point clear of the Thunder, with seven wins apiece, and the winner of this game will be guaranteed a top-five spot.

Sydney Thunder had previously smashed 232/5 – a BBL record – in their last game, as Alex Hales’ 110 helped them to a dominant Sydney Smash victory. Only Perth Scorchers have a better net run rate them so far this season, and they will hope to jump back up to third place with a win (or higher if they can secure a bonus point).

ADS Team News

Adelaide Strikers were unchanged last time out and the same team, with Michael Neser and Travis Head back in action, could start once again after another victory.

ADS Key Players

  • Alex Carey: Smashed a century in the win against Brisbane Heat, to put himself in exalted company as a multiple BBL centurion.
  • Travis Head: Back from international duty, his batting will be key in BBL . He has hit 25 and 31 so far, and could kick on in this game.
  • Peter Siddle: Took 3-13 in the win against Brisbane and his 16 dot balls were central to the narrow win against the Thunder last time out too.

ADS Team Form

Adelaide Strikers have now won three of their last four matches to put themselves firmly in the play-off picture. Alex Ross was the Thunder’s X-Factor sub last time out to strengthen the batting line-up, but Tanveer Sangha is likely to still play his part in the bowling attack for this game. The Thunder’s starting XI has been unchanged these last two matches.

SYT Key Players

  • Alex Hales: His 110 against Sydney Sixers helped him to 472 runs in total so far this season – top of the batting charts and with a strike rate of 163.89 to boot too.
  • Sam Billings: The Thunder’s other English batsman has lacked consistency, hitting just six last time out after 83 runs across the previous two games.
  • Brendan Doggett: Back into the team to good effect recently, taking 1-24 and 2-21 in the last two matches to move to seven wickets in three BBL games this season.

SYT Team Form

Sydney Thunder ended a three-game losing streak in style, thrashing Sydney Sixers as Alex Hales’ 110 powered a BBL-record total of 232/5. The Sixers could only reach 186/5 in reply. Their batting fell short last time out, however – hitting 153/7 in reply to Adelaide Strikers 159/6.

ADS vs SYT Dream11 Prediction

  • Wicket Keeper

Alex Carey has been the top option of the two wicket-keepers so far this season and reiterated that with his century against Brisbane Heat. Both could be worth picking, however – Sam Billings lacks consistency but had just started to find form before the most recent game.

  • Batsmen

Alex Hales is ten credits but as the BBL’s top run scorer so far this season he is hard to ignore. Jake Weatherald is 9.5 credits and Phil Salt is nine credits but both are key figures up the order for the Thunder. That leaves a decision between two Thunder batsmen – opener Usman Khawaja and captain Callum Ferguson. The latter has more points so far.

  • All rounder

Ben Cutting is good value at 8.5 credits, particularly considering the way he is being pushed up the order for his pinch-hitting batting. Travis Head is available again, meanwhile, and worth a gamble at 9.5 credits – though it would mean overlooking Michael Neser.

  • Bowlers

Peter Siddle and Wes Agar are must-picks, with both in good form and both leading the Adelaide bowling attack. That leaves one space and eight credits, but Brendan Doggett looks excellent value having got back into the Thunder line-up.

  • Captain /Vice Captain

Alex Hales is the tournament’s leading run-scorer so far and hard to ignore with the bat. He looks a good captain pick, and Alex Carey could be a top vice-captain – though you are gambling on both hitting good batting form. An alternative is in-form bowler Peter Siddle.

ADS vs SYT Dream11 Team Prediction

  • Batsmen:Phil Salt, Jake Weatherald, Alex Hales (c), Callum Ferguson

  • All Rounder:Ben Cutting, Travis Head

  • Wicket Keeper:Alex Carey (vc), Sam BillingsPhil Salt, Jake Weatherald, Alex Hales (c), Callum Ferguson

  • Bowler:Peter Siddle, Wes Agar, Brendan Doggett
