Gulf Giants are favorites to win
Abu Dhabi Knight Riders will take on Gulf Giants at the Dubai International Stadium. Match 16 of the 2022-23 ILT20 gets underway at 18:00 local time on Wednesday 25th January.
With zero points on the board and still being the only team looking for their first ILT20 victory, Abu Dhabi Knight Riders are already four points adrift in the table. Their last defeat was by five wickets, although from the last ball, against MI Emirates.
Sri Lanka’s Dhananjaya de Silva hit 65 runs from 40 balls in his third innings of the tournament and set a platform for the other players to bat around him against MI Emirates. Ultimately, they did not post enough runs but they came very close to getting their first win.
Sri Lanka pace bowler, Lahir Kumara took a two-wicket haul for the second time in two games on Saturday. He also took four wickets from two games in the ODI series against India so is bowling with good rhythm, accuracy and pace at the moment.
Abu Dhabi Knight Riders are the only other team to have lost all five of their matches in the tournament.
Sharjah Warriors became the first team to end Gulf Giants’ streak of four wins from four games when they beat them by 21 runs on Monday. For the Giants, they were second best with bat and ball across the game and will be keen to bounce back in this match.
Gulf Giants were bowled out for 130 when looking to hit 152 to win against the Warriors. There were top order failures for Rehan Ahmed, James Vince, Tom Banton, Aayan Khan and Shimron Hetymer who all hit single figure scores. David Wiese (35 runs) and Chris Jordan (37) will be hoping to be promoted up the order in this match.
The English trio of Richard Gleeson (1-27), Chris Jordan (3-25) and Rehan Ahmed (1-23) caused Sharjah Warriors the most problems in the last game with Jordan particularly impressive. David Wiese (1-33) and Sanchit Sharma (1-25) also picked up a wicket each.
Gulf Giants won four in a row before being defeated by Sharjah Warriors in Dubai.
The match will be played at the Dubai International Stadium. This pitch looks to have slowed down a little over recent days but we still expect a good batting wicket with a par score of over 155.
