Ricky Ponting signed as head of strategy for Hobart Hurricanes

Big Bash League franchise Hobart Hurricanes has signed Ricky Ponting as Head of Strategy to start a new phase of the team from the 2023 season. Ponting has played for the Hurricanes in the first 2 seasons of BBL. Those were the last years of Ponting’s time in professional cricket.

Ponting will be playing a key role in the decision making body of the franchise. His first task as the head of strategy will be to appoint a new head coach as the former coach Adam Griffith stepped down from the position after the end of last season.

Ponting has signed a 3-year contract with the Hurricanes and the team will be looking forward to new changes with the former Aussie captain’s inputs.

An official statement from Hobart Hurricanes read, “Ponting has signed a three-year deal with the male Hurricanes program which, will see him identify candidates for the now-vacant head coaching position, and work on match and list strategy with the then-appointed coach”

Ricky Ponting has made his intentions clear after being appointed the position. He said, “I'm passionate about the progression of Tasmanian and Australian cricket across all forms of the game, so to be asked to take on such a critical role for the Hurricanes is really special. I'm looking forward to getting to work and securing the best coach for what we need then building a plan for the team to execute next season.”

Hobart Hurricanes finished the last season of BBL at the 5th spot on the points table with 7 wins in 14 matches. Matthew Wade is the captain of the side.
