Mumbai Indians vs Rajasthan Royals

The two teams had contrasting results in their tournament openers. While Mumbai lost comprehensively to Delhi Capitals, Rajasthan Royals were too good for the Sunrisers Hyderabad. Both teams didn't play their full strength squad as a few key players were either unavailable or out due to injury. Let us look at the possible playing XIs for the teams in the next match, and if there will be any changes in their combination.

Mumbai Indians

Suryakumar Yadav missed out on the first game due to an injury. He should be back in the team in all probabilities. Daniel Sams didn't have a great outing the other day and Mumbai might look to replace him with Fabien Allen.

Top-order

Rohit Sharma, Ishan Kishan and Suryakumar Yadav will comprise the top order. All three players are match-winners on their day. Ishan Kishan stroked a magnificent 81 against Delhi, while Sharma too looked good. Suryakumar Yadav will be keen to make an impact in the very first game.

Middle Order

Tilak Verma, Kieron Pollard and Tim David will be the next batters to follow. There's a lot of class and power in Mumbai's middle order. Pollard and David especially can decimate any bowling attack.

All-rounders

Daniel Sams had an off day against Delhi and it will be interesting to see if Mumbai stick with him or bring in a spinner in Allen. Sams might just retain his place owing to his batting skills.

Bowlers

Murugan Ashwin, Jasprit Bumrah, Tymal Mills, Basil Thampi will be the four bowlers. Bumrah had an off day against Delhi and leaked runs at 12.9 runs per over. Murugan Ashwin was the best bowler as he took 2 wickets for 14 runs. He will be keen to continue his good run. Mills and Thampi will have to support the duo and stop the run flow.

MI Key Batters

  • Rohit Sharma - Sharma looked good in the last game and scored a solid 41 off 32 balls. The batter is one of the best in this format and can decimate a bowling attack.
  • Ishan Kishan - The million-dollar man proved his worth with a brilliant 81 against Delhi. Kishan can be explosive at the start and lay a solid platform for the batters to follow.
  • Kieron Pollard - Pollard was dismissed cheaply in the first game but we all know how destructive he can be on his day.

MI Top Batsman Stats

Batter Matches Runs Average SR 50/100
Rohit Sharma 214 5652 31.23 130.38 40/1
Ishan Kishan 62 1533 30.06 137.74 10/0
Kieron Pollard 179 3271 29.74 149.5 16

MI Top bowlers

  • Jasprit Bumrah - After leaking plenty in the first match, Bumrah will be desperate to bounce back and deliver a match-winning performance.
  • Murugan Ashwin - Ashwin was terrific with the ball and accounted for two wickets without giving much away. He can trouble the RR batting lineup.
  • Tymal Mills - Mills is very experienced in this format and has plenty of variations up his sleeves. He will be keen to perform well in the next game.

MI Top Bowlers Stats

Bowler Matches wickets Average SR Best figures
Jasprit Bumrah 107 130 23.38 18.78 14/4
Murugan Ashwin 35 28 31.96 24.86 21/3
Tymal Mills 6 6 29.83 20.83 31/2

MI XI: Rohit Sharma (captain), Ishan Kishan (wicketkeeper), Suryakumar Yadav, Tilak Varma, Kieron Pollard, Tim David, Daniel Sams/Fabian Allen, Murugan Ashwin, Jasprit Bumrah, Tymal Mills, Basil Thampi.

Rajasthan Royals

There are some injury concerns in the Rajasthan camp as Nathan Coulter-Nile is not fully fit. James Neesham can replace him in the team.

Top-order

Jos Butter, Yashasvi Jaisal, Sanju Samson and Devdutt Padikkal form a strong top order for Rajasthan Royals. All of them were in fine form against SRH and contributed to the team's massive total. Samson especially was on song as went on to score 55 in 27 balls.

Middle Order

Shimron Hetmyer and Riyan Parag will be responsible for maintaining the run rate in the middle overs. Both are very capable and can be hard to stop on their day.

All-rounders

Nathan Coulter Nile or James Neeshan will be a genuine all-rounder in the team. If Coulter Nile is fit, he should play ahead of Neesham. He perfectly complements the other bowlers by not giving much away. On the other hand, if Neesham plays, he will add a lot of strength to the batting as he is a big hitter.

Bowlers

RR have probably the best bowling lineup in IPL, with R Ashwin, Trent Boult, Prasidh Krishna and Yuzvendra Chahal at disposal. All were exceptionally good in the last game. There are no breathers for the opposition batters.

RR Key Batters

  • Jos Butter - In a T20 game, Buttler can murder any bowling attack. He struck a solid 35 off 28 in the last game but he was not at his best. RR will expect a better performance from him.
  • Sanju Samson - The skipper was in tremendous form in the last game and played a whirlwind innings of 55 in just 27 balls. Samson will be keen to lead from the front and play another blazing knock.
  • Devdutt Padikkal - Padikkal was the star for RCB last year and he will be vital for RR this year. It's a good opportunity for him to raise his stocks and he will be keen to perform well.

RR Top Batsman Stats

Batter Matches Runs Average SR 50/100
Jos Buttler 66 2003 35.14 149.48 11/1
Samju Samson 122 3123 29.46 135.02 16/3
Devdutt Padikkal 30 925 31.9 125.68 6/1

RR Key bowlers

  • Yuzvendra Chahal - Chahal picked 3 wickets for 22 runs in the last game and looked at his very best. He has a point to prove and will be keen to continue his form.
  • Trent Boult - The Kiwi is very experienced and very good with the new ball. He is very hard to get away and Mumbai will have a task on their hands to handle their former pacer.
  • R Ashwin - The veteran has plenty up his sleeves and will be very hard to play, especially if they bat first with less dew.

RR Top Bowlers Stats

Batter Matches wickets Average SR Best figures
