In a major disappointment, the Board of Control for Cricket in India has decided to send KL Rahul abroad for treatment to his recurring groin injury. KL sustained the injury once again just before the start of the on-going South Africa tour of India which consists of 5 T20Is.

In the absence of the full-time Indian skipper Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul was appointed as the captain of the T20I side for this series but due to his injury, wicketkeeper batsman Rishabh Pant, who was the vice-captain, has been elevated to the captaincy. South Africa is currently leading the series 2-1 after 3 matches.

KL Rahul To Go To Germany For Treatment

BCCI President Jay Shah has confirmed to the Cricbuzz that KL Rahul will likely be going to Germany for the treatment. He said, “That is correct, the board is working on his fitness and he will be going to Germany soon.” KL Rahul has been dealing with the injury for too long now. He missed the home T20I series against West Indies as well. He last played an international T20 in November 2021 against New Zealand.

Rahul Will Miss The England Tour

KL Rahul will miss India's tour of England where the much-awaited 5th Test match will take place at Edgbaston. The test match is a rescheduled Test match from the last year’s 5 match Test series which was halted after 4 Tests due to various reasons. The series is currently standing at 2-1 with India at the lead.

Another batch of the Indian team which will be led by all-rounder Hardik Pandya will head to Ireland for the 2 T20Is scheduled to take place at the end of this month.

In the IPL 2022, KL Rahul led the debutant franchise Lucknow Super Giants and he did a tremendous job as a captain, taking the team to the play-offs. KL Rahul opened for the team in all the matches and he smashed a whopping 616 runs at an average of 51.33. Among these 600+ runs were his 2 brilliant century knocks.

The 30-year-old batsman has been a key player for the national team for a while now. He has played 43 Tests, 42 ODIs and 56 T20Is and scored a total of 6012 runs so far in all the formats.
