England wicket-keeper batsman Jonny Bairstow has pulled out of the Hundred tournament to get some rest before the start of the 3-match Test series against South Africa, which is slated to commence on 17th August.

The Hundred is scheduled to start on 3rd August and the first contest will witness Southern Brave taking on Welsh Fire at The Rose Bowl in Southampton.

Bairstow is part of the Welsh Fire squad with whom he played the inaugural season as well.

Bairstow is having a brilliant form in the red-ball cricket under the captaincy of new skipper Ben Stokes and head coach Brendon McCullum. He has smashed 994 runs in 8 Tests at an impressive average of 76.46.

After his fine performance so far this year, he has entered the list of Top 10 Test batsmen in the ICC Rankings. In the rescheduled 5th Test match against India on 1st July, Bairstow smashed centuries in both the innings and helped England to emerge victorious chasing a target of 378 on the 5th day.

On his decision to pull out this year, Bairstow said, “I am really disappointed. I won’t be part of the Hundred this year,” Bairstow was quoted as saying by Sky Sports News. “I loved it last year. I have had a hectic few months with the schedule as it is. And I really need to take a breather before the South Africa Test series. All the best to the Welsh Fire Men and Women. I will be cheering you on.”
