The former England Test captain, Joe Root has surpassed 10,000 runs in Test cricket. Root became the second England player to achieve this milestone after Alastair Cook. Root is also the quickest of the two by reaching the mark in 218 innings while Cook has taken 229 innings.
Joe Root has become the 14th player in Test Cricket history to reach this mark. He is also the fastest to reach 10,000 Test runs and the only batsman who has completed the mark within a decade. It took him 9 years and 171 days from his debut to reach this mark.

Root’s feat was achieved in the 1st Test match against New Zealand at Lord’s. After getting dismissed for 11 in the 1st innings, Joe Root came to England’s rescue in the 2nd innings when the team was down at a score of 69/4 while chasing a target of 277 runs on the 4th Day. Root played a brilliant knock of 115 runs off 170 deliveries and handed England a difficult win.
The former skipper Joe Root’s 26th Test century gave England a win in Ben Stokes’ first Test match as the England’s red-ball captain after the former stepped down from his captaincy duties in April.
Root is the highest run scorer among the fab four of Tests - Joe Root, Virat Kohli, Kane Williamson and Steve Smith. Kohli and Smith have scored 8043 and 8010 runs, respectively, so far while Williamson is currently at 7289 runs. Smith has the highest batting average of 59.77 among these four.
With his current fitness levels, Joe Root will definitely try to play for some more years to come and will be looking forward to breaking Sachin Tendulkar’s record for highest Test runs.
