Top order batter from India’s women’s team, Jemimah Rodrigues has signed with Women’s Big Bash League franchise Melbourne Stars for the upcoming 8th season of the league. Last year, Rodrigues played for Stars’ cross-city rivals Melbourne Renegades and scored 333 runs with an impressive strike rate of 116.43.

First Indian Player To Sign For Melbourne Stars

With her signing with the Melbourne Stars, she also became the first Indian player to sign with the franchise and the third Indian player to sign for WBBL 2022. The other two players are the Indian white-ball skipper Harmanpreet Kaur, who signed for Melbourne Renegades and Pooja Vastrakar who signed with Brisbane Heat.

Jemimah Rodrigues India Schedule

The 8th season of the WBBL is scheduled to kick-off from 13th October and Rodrigues will misas the first two games for the Stars due to international commitments. Rodrigues will be occupied with the Indian team at the Women’s Asia Cup which is scheduled to take place from 1st October to 16th October. Before the Asia Cup, Rodrigues will be part of the Indian squad to tour England for 3 T20Is and 3 ODIs in September.

On her signing with the new franchise, Rodrigues said, “I am super excited to be a part of the Stars family, I've been told that I'm the first ever Indian to sign for the Stars and it is my honour to do so.”

Jemimah Nominated For ICC Player Of The Month

Jemimah Rodrigues was part of the Indian side, which reached the final of the Commonwealth Women’s Cricket this year and clinched the silver medal. For her performance in the tournament, scoring 146 runs in 5 matches at an average of 73.00, she has been nominated for the ICC Player of the Month for August.
