In a major blow to the England team, skipper Heather Knight has been ruled out of the on-going Commonwealth Games Women’s Cricket and upcoming 100-ball tournament The Hundred Women due to a hip injury. Knight has missed the first two games of the Commonwealth against Sri Lanka and South Africa.

The 31-year-old all-rounder picked the injury during the home series against South Africa. She will also miss the upcoming second season of The Hundred Women which is scheduled to start from 11th August.

The rules of the Commonwealth Games does not allow replacements while the tournament is underway, therefore, England will continue their camp with a 14-member squad now. Nat Sciver will carry on to lead the team in the tournament. England has won the first 2 matches and booked a place in the semi-finals.

Despite Knight’s exclusion from the team, England is still performing quite well so far. They defeated South Africa 3-0 then won against Sri Lanka and South Africa.

If England defeat New Zealand in the 3rd match of the group stage then they will face the world champions Australia on Saturday.
