England’s most successful white-ball skipper Eoin Morgan is set to call time on his international career. Morgan had an amazing international stint of 16 years in which he became the only England captain to hand England their first ever ICC World Cup trophy.

England winning their 1st ever World Cup

England beat New Zealand in the Super Over of the final match of the 2019 World Cup to clinch their first World Cup title. The World Cup 2019 took place in England and it couldn’t have been a better opportunity for England to win the first title of the most prestigious ICC tournament.

After a poor World Cup stint in the 2015 edition, There was a revolution in the England cricket and a large chunk of credit goes to Eoin Morgan who has given rise to the new face of the England cricket as the captain and players like Jos Buttler, Jason Roy, Jonny Bairstow, Moeen Ali came up under his leadership.

Eoin Morgan international career

Eoin Morgan was born in Dublin, Ireland. He has represented Ireland in 23 ODIs before switching to England. In 2004, Morgan was selected in the Ireland squad for the Under-19 World Cup and in 2006 he was appointed as the captain of the Under-19 Ireland team for the World Cup.

In 23 ODIs for Ireland, Morgan scored 744 runs at an average of 35.42.

After switching to the England team, Morgan rose to fame as one of the best white-ball batsmen in England. He has accumulated more than 10,000 runs in ODIs and T20Is combined. In 225 ODIs for England, Morgan scored 6957 runs and he scored 2458 runs in 115 T20Is.

In the 2016 T20 World Cup final, England was denied a 2nd title win when West Indies’ Carlos Brathwaite smashed four 6s in the final over of Ben Stokes and lifted the trophy. Ben Stokes had a redemption moment in the final of the 2019 World Cup under the same skipper Eoin Morgan.

Morgan has been little out of form since a few matches now, which has definitely pushed him towards his decision as earlier he has stated that he wanted to lead England in the upcoming 2022 T20 World Cup in Australia.

Next white-ball captain for England

As per the speculations, Jos Buttler is the number one contender to replace Morgan as the white-ball captain for England. Buttler is currently among the top white-ball batters and has been in terrific form since the IPL 2022 where he emerged as the leading run scorer of the season.
