Ajit Agarkar and Shane Watson to join Delhi Capitals as assistant coaches

According to the latest reports, Former Australian all-rounder Shane Watson and former Indian pacer, Ajit Agarkar are set to join Delhi Capitals camp as assistant coach under Ricky Ponting.

Ajit Agarkar has been part of the Delhi team from 2011-2013 and prior to that, he was in Kolkata Knight Riders from 2008-2010. Agarkar has been a cricket expert for a while now and this will be his first coaching stint for any IPL team. In his international career, Agarkar has picked 288 wickets in 191 ODIs. He was also part of the 2007 T20 World Cup winning squad.

Shane Watson has been a key batsman for Chennai Super Kings for a long time. In his T20 career, he has played 343 matches, in which he has scored 8821 runs and picked 216 wickets. Shane Watson will be joining as an assistant coach for the first time in IPL. He has been part of Chennai Super Kings, Royal Challengers Bangalore and Rajasthan Royals.

His vast experience will be a great factor for the Delhi Capitals team which has produced a revamped look after the IPL mega auctions. Rishabh Pant, Axar Patel, Prithvi Shaw and Anrich Nortje were retained by the Capitals before the auctions and they released other key players like Shreyas Iyer, Shikhar Dhawan and Kagiso Rabada.

They went on to buy some important T20 players in the mega auction, including David Warner, Mitchell Marsh, Shardul Thakur and Mustafizur Rahman. 

Delhi Capitals are yet to attain their first IPL title. They were the closest to the trophy in the IPL 2021 where they were defeated by Mumbai Indians in the final match.
