IPL 2022 - Will David Warner & Anrich Nortje Play Against LSG ?

Delhi Capitals are going to get a massive boost in today’s contest against the new franchise Lucknow Super Giants as two of their key players David Warner and Anrich Nortje are finally available to play.

Aussie batsman David Warner returned from national duty on Australia's tour of Pakistan. As per the Cricket Australia’s rule, any player who is contracted with the board is not allowed to play in any other league until any international series is underway. Pakistan-Australia series ended on 5th April, therefore, all the Aussie players who have contracts with IPL teams are now allowed to participate in the on-going league.

Is David Warner Available Against LSG ?

David Warner is a certain in the playing 11 against Lucknow Super Giants as DC is seen struggling a bit with their opening pair. Warner will replace the New Zealand batter Tim Seifert and open the innings along with Prithvi Shaw. Warner-Shaw pair will give the required start to the innings as Warner has been a reliable opener over the years in IPL.

He played for Sunrisers Hyderabad till the 2021 season but things didn’t go well between the SRH management and Warner and the latter was stripped off his captaincy and later dropped from playing 11.

In the February mega auction, Warner was roped in by his former team Delhi Capitals for a price tag of INR 6.25 crore.

Since his first IPL season in 2010, Warner has played 143 matches in which he has smashed 5286 runs at an impressive average of 42.63.

Nortje Likely Against LSG

South African right-arm pacer Anrich Nortje has made a huge mark in the IPL in just 2 seasons. He played for Delhi Capitals for the first time in 2020 as a replacement for Chris Woakes who got injured. In that season, Nortje picked 22 wickets in 16 matches followed by 12 wickets in 8 matches in the 2021 season.

Nortje was one of the retained players by DC and he is an important asset in the bowling unit now. But how did he become such an important player in just 2 seasons ?

Nortje has terrific skills with the ball, holding a record for the 2nd fastest delivery in IPL history. In a match against Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2020, while bowling the fifth delivery of the 1st over, Nortje clocked a speed of 156.22 km/h and stunned everyone. In the whole season, he kept some of the top batters at bay with his 150+ km/h deliveries.

As far as his availability is concerned, Nortje was fit and available for the LSG match, as reported by the DC’s assistant coach Shane Watson.

It is strongly speculated that he will join the playing 11 against LSG today and might replace Khaleel Ahmed.
