In the recent developments for CPL 2022, Barbados Royals has appointed South African batsman David Miller as the captain of the side replacing all-rounder Jason Holder. Caribbean Premier League 2022 is set to kick-off on August 31.

The two-time champions, Barbados Royals, have been having a rough patch since the last two seasons. In the 2020 season, they finished at the second last spot and in the 2021 season they finished at the bottom of the points table.

In his CPL career, David Miller has represented St Lucia Zouks in 2016 and Jamaica Tallawahs in 2018. 2018 was the last season when Miller was part of the CPL. Miller has scored 332 runs in 15 CPL matches at a strike rate of 146.90.

Jason Holder will remain to be a key-player for the Royals team. He led the team to its 2nd CPL title in 2019.

On appointing Miller to the Royals franchise, team Head Coach Trevor Penny said, “Having worked with David Miller before at the Rajasthan Royals, we knew he has a cricketing brain which not only reads situations very well on the field, but is also very passionately involved off the field. We are all delighted to have signed him and look forward to working with him during the season.”

Miller has been part of the IPL franchise Rajasthan Royals, which also owns Barbados Royals. He had a terrific IPL this year being part of the Gujarat Titans which lifted their first trophy in their debut season. He smashed 481 runs in 16 matches at an average of 68.71.

On getting the captain’s cap for the Royals, Miller said, “During my time at the Royals in the IPL, I always felt very valued and have been able to establish a deep connection with the team. It is an exciting time for me to come to the Barbados Royals, and a privilege to have been appointed as the captain.”
