According to the reports, experienced Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin did not board the England bound flight on June 16th, along with the Indian team, due to health issues. The 35-year-old Test player is part of the Indian Test squad and scheduled to play in the rescheduled 5th Test against England at Edgbaston.

A BCCI source said, “we are hopeful that he will recover well in time before the Test match starts on July 1. However he might miss the practice game against Leicestershire.”

The 5th Test is rescheduled from the last year’s 5-match Test series in England which was put on a halt after the 4th Test due to some reasons. India is currently leading the series 2-1 after 4 Tests.

Ashwin has proved to be a crucial part of the Indian Test team for a few years now. He has picked 442 wickets in 86 Tests at an average of 24.13. Ashwin also provides a good quality of batting in the middle-order. He has scored 2931 runs so far and has a highest score of 124 in Tests.

The Indian Test team led by captain Rohit Sharma has traveled to England on June 16th for the Test match which will commence on July 1st. Head coach Rahul Dravid, Rishabh Pant and Shreyas Iyer traveled to london after completing the T20I series against South Africa, from where they will travel to Leicester.

It has been speculated that Ashwin might get fit to play the Test and might reach England before 1st July to join the team camp. He needs approval from the BCCI's medical team.

A lot has changed in both the teams since the last time both India and England faced each other in a Test match. Starting from the captaincy, Both the former skippers Virat Kohli and Joe Root have stepped down from the captaincy and in the 5th Test, Rohit Sharma and Ben Stokes will lead the Indian and England side, respectively.

KL Rahul has been ruled out of the Test squad due to groin injury. He was one of the key players in the 4 Tests last year. He smashed 315 runs in 4 matches which includes a century.

Another batch of the Indian team will reach Ireland for the 2-match T20I series to be played in Dublin. All-rounder Hardik Pandya is trusted with the captaincy duties for this series after he has put up a great show in the IPL 2022 where he led the debutant franchise Gujarat Titans to their maiden IPL title.
