New Ahmedabad IPL team to be named Gujarat Titans

The new Ahmedabad based IPL franchise has taken up the name ‘Gujarat Titans’. An announcement was released by the team officials on Wednesday, 09 Feb 2022. The team owner CVC capital bought the team in the auctions for a whopping bid of INR 5625 crore. 

The 15th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) will be played among 10 teams which is happening for the first time after the 2011 edition. The new teams are based in Ahmedabad and Lucknow.

During the draft pick, the Ahmedabad team picked all-rounder Hardik Pandya and appointed him as the captain of the team. Along with him, they picked Rashid Khan and Shubman Gill. The owners paid a sum of INR 15 crore for Hardik Pandya and Rashid Khan, and they paid INR 8 crore for Shubman Gill.

Hardik Pandya has played a vital role in the uprising of the Mumbai Indians team as the most successful team of the league. He was picked by Mumbai Indians in 2015 auctions for just INR 10 lakh and was retained in 2018 for INR 11 crore. This was the impact of Hardik Pandya on the team’s success.

Hardik Pandya has been dealing with some hardcore injury which has had a big impact on his bowling and he is still not able to bowl like he used to earlier. We saw him struggling in the T20 World Cup in 2021. But now he claims to be totally fit and fine to lead the Ahmedabad franchise in the upcoming IPL 2022.

After picking the 3 players, Ahmedabad team is left with a remaining purse of INR 52 crore. The IPL mega auction is scheduled to take place on February 12-13 in Bengaluru. A total of 590 players will go under the hammer, out of which 370 are Indian players while 220 are overseas players.
