Date | 24th October 2022 |
Time | 1:30 PM IST, 8:00 AM GMT, 7:00 PM LOCAL |
Venue | Bellerive Oval, Hobart |
South Africa will be up against Zimbabwe in their opening game of the T20 World Cup 2022. South Africa last played against India and lost the series 2-1. They also played one warm-up against New Zealand and picked up a win by nine wickets.
Meanwhile, Zimbabwe played outstanding cricket in the Qualifiers and defeated Scotland and Ireland. They could have won against West Indies as well but failed to close the game.
The surface has extra bounce and carry for the pacers to exploit. The conditions are not easy for the batters but players who are good off the backfoot will find it much easier to score.
There is 70 per cent chance of rain on the match day. The temperature will also dip down to 10 degrees, making it even tougher for the players out there.
Temba Bavuma (c), Quinton de Kock (wk), Rilee Rossouw, Aiden Markram, David Miller, Tristan Stubbs, Wayne Parnell, Keshav Maharaj, Kagiso Rabada, Anrich Nortje, Lungi Ngidi
Craig Ervine (c), Regis Chakabva (wk), Wesley Madhevere, Sean Williams, Sikandar Raza, Milton Shumba, Ryan Burl, Luke Jongwe, Richard Ngarava, Tendai Chatara, Blessing Muzarabani
Zimbabwe will not change their combination much as they have a settled unit. South Africa will have to make a call if they want to play Maharaj and Shamsi together or play Parnell in place of one of the spinners.
South Africa have a great head-to-head record against Zimbabwe

Sikandar Raza has been in staggering form for Zimbabwe this year. He has continued his form in the T20 World Cup as well and is the leading run-scorer of the tournament so far with 136 runs. He has also taken five wickets in the tournament.
Quinton de Kock is a key player for South Africa. While he has blown hot and cold in recent times, in a big tournament like a world cup, he will be vital for South Africa.
David Miller will be the trump card for South Africa with the bat. Miller has played well in recent times and had a brilliant series against India, where he also scored a century in the T20I series.
Sean Williams is an experienced player who will have to play a huge role if Zimbabwe have to beat South Africa. Williams is one of the best batters for Zimbabwe and an equally good bowler. Long boundaries of Australia can help him fetch a few wickets.
Given the spicy nature of the pitches in Australia, Rabada, with his extra pace and carry, will be very tough to face for the Zimbabwe batters.
