Time | 12:30 PM IST, 7:00 AM GMT, 3:00 PM LOCAL |
Venue | Perth Stadium, Perth |
It will be very difficult for both teams to reach the semi-finals. Both Pakistan and Netherlands are yet to win a game in the tournament. Pakistan lost to India in their opening game and then suffered a shock loss to Zimbabwe in the second. Both games were close and could have gone Pakistan’s way but the Men in Green failed to capitalize on crunch moments and lost the games, thus putting them in a miserable situation.
The Netherlands did well to reach the Super 12 but they have failed to match the quality of other top teams in the Super 12. After losing to Bangladesh, they were hammered by India in the last game.
The wicket will have plenty of pace and bounce to help the pacers. The batters will have to be very careful as the conditions will not be easy to bat.
The rain does not look much of a threat as the chances are as low as 20 per cent. However, the temperature can dip to 6 degrees which is not very comfortable to play cricket.
Mohammad Rizwan (wk), Babar Azam (c), Shan Masood, Iftikhar Ahmed, Shadab Khan, Haider Ali/Asif Ali, Mohammad Nawaz, Mohammad Wasim Jr, Shaheen Afridi/Mohammad Hasnain, Haris Rauf, Naseem Shah
Vikramjit Singh, Max ODowd, Bas de Leede, Colin Ackermann, Tom Cooper, Scott Edwards (c & wk), Tim Pringle, Logan van Beek, Shariz Ahmad, Fred Klaassen, Paul van Meekeren
Shaheen Afridi doesn’t look fully fit and since Pakistan’s chances are low for reaching the playoffs, they may rest him and bring in Mohammad Hasnain. Haider Ali can also be replaced by Asif Ali. The Netherlands are likely to play the same team.
Pakistan have won the only T20I played against the Netherlands

Babar Azam has not been in great form, there is no doubt about it, but every now and then he plays a sublime knock against the run of play. It’s surprising that a batter going through a lean patch can play a brilliant knock out of the blue as it doesn’t happen with most batters. Even Kohli failed to do so which shows how good a batter Babar is. The captain needs to step up and take his team to a win.
Mohammad Rizwan hasn’t done much in two games of the T20 World Cup but he has been in terrific form of late and a lot will be expected of him in the games to come of the marquee event.
Max O’Dowd is Netherlands’ best batter and has played a couple of good knocks in the tournament. He is Netherlands’ best bet to score good runs against a class and fiery Pakistan bowling lineup.
On a spicy Perth pitch, Haris Rauf, with his height and pace, can turn out to be a nightmare for the Netherlands batter.
Naseem Shah is also a good player to pick, not because he has been in great form, but because he gets the ball to move both ways and given the conditions, he will be very tough to face.
