Pakistan will take on Afghanistan in their quest to reach the final of the Asia Cup 2022. Having defeated India in the first Super 4 game, Pakistan’s confidence is on sky nine. This Pakistan team under Babar Azam is very different from the Pakistan teams of the past. The team is not scared to lose and experiment and is playing a positive brand of cricket. This has resulted in the team pulling off some remarkable wins, like the one against India where they chased 182 against all odds.
Meanwhile, Afghanistan reached the Super 4, after beating Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. However, they lost to Sri Lanka in the first Super 4 game. Yet, they could be proud of their performance as they did give Sri Lanka a tough fight. They posted 175/6 and looked like beating Sri Lanka twice in a row but the hosts pulled off a brilliant chase.
The surface in Dubai is a good one to bat and the last few games have been high-scoring matches. The spinners are a major threat in Dubai but so far, they have not had any help from the surface. We can be in for another high-scoring game.
The weather will be quite hot with temperatures soaring to 41 degrees. The humidity will also take a toll on players at 40 per cent.
Mohammad Rizwan (wk)/Haider Ali, Babar Azam (c), Fakhar Zaman, Khushdil Shah, Iftikhar Ahmed, Shadab Khan, Asif Ali, Mohammad Nawaz, Haris Rauf, Mohammad Hasnain, Naseem Shah
Hazratullah Zazai, Rahmanullah Gurbaz (wk), Ibrahim Zadran, Mohammad Nabi (c), Najibullah Zadran, Karim Janat, Samiullah Shinwari, Rashid Khan, Naveen-ul-Haq, Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Fazalhaq Farooqi
Mohammad Rizwan picked up an injury against India and has undergone several scans. He is unlikely to play against Afghanistan. The Mohammad Nabi-led side, however, should play the same team.
Afghanistan are yet to beat Pakistan in T20Is

Babar Azam has had three poor outings in the tournament so far and it’s almost certain that he will come good against Afghanistan. A player of the calibre of Babar can’t go too many matches without scoring runs.
Gurbaz is a very destructive batter and has done superbly well for Afghanistan in recent times. Against Sri Lanka, Guzbaz played a breathtaking knock of 84 off 45 balls to help Afghanistan post a big score on the board.
Mohammad Nawaz had a brilliant game against India and won the player of the match award for a sensational display. He scored 42 runs in 20 balls to go along with a spell of 1-25 in 4 overs. He is a valuable addition to any team.
Rashid Khan was taken apart by Sri Lanka batters in the last game and he will be keen to bounce well against Pakistan. Rashid is a champion bowler and a bad performance in a game is no reason to leave him out of our team.
Mujeeb Ur Rahman has had a fantastic Asia Cup 2022. He is the highest wicket-taker of the tournament with seven wickets in just 3 games. He and Rashid will be the key for Afghanistan in the coming game.
