Venue | Barsapara Cricket Stadium, Guwahati |
The first T20I between India and South Africa was one of those rare games where bowlers dominated throughout the match. Indian bowlers started brilliantly and reduced South Africa to 9/5 before a fighting knock by Keshav Maharaj took South Africa to 106-8.
South African bowlers too started aggressively and reduced India to 17/2 in the powerplay before KL Rahul and Suryakumar Yadav scored half-centuries and took India home. India will look to win the coming game and seal the series.
The surface should be a good one to bat. Guwahati offers a pitch that is usually flat and ideal for high-scoring games. Pacers, however, may get some movement early on.
The weather looks good for cricket. The rain should stay away from the match as the chances of precipitation are just 20 per cent. At 27 degrees, the temperature will also be very pleasing for the players.
Rohit Sharma (c), KL Rahul, Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, Rishabh Pant (wk), Dinesh Karthik, Axar Patel, Ravichandran Ashwin, Harshal Patel, Deepak Chahar, Arshdeep Singh
Quinton de Kock (wk), Temba Bavuma (c), Rilee Rossouw, Aiden Markram, David Miller, Tristan Stubbs, Wayne Parnell, Kagiso Rabada, Keshav Maharaj, Anrich Nortje, Tabraiz Shamsi
Jasprit Bumrah has been ruled out of the series due to a back stress fracture and Mohammed Siraj has been added to the squad. Bumrah didn’t play the first game thus India should play the same team that won the first match. South Africa should also stick to the same combination.
With a win in the first match, India have extended their T20I wins against South Africa to 12 in 21 games.

All-rounders | Axar Patel (VC), Wayne Parnell, Aiden Markram |
Bowlers | Deepak Chahar, Harshal Patel, Kagiso Rabada |
Virat Kohli missed out in the last game but he seems to have found his form back. With a century and a half-century in the last few games, Kohli is looking threatening. With just two more T20Is before the T20 World Cup, Kohli will be keen on playing a few good knocks.
Surya seems to be batting on a different planet. On a pitch where every other batter struggled, Surya scored a half-century in just 33 balls. He is arguably the best T20I batter at the moment and South Africa will be wary of the threat he possesses.
South Africa will be expecting a good show from Aiden Markram. He played a decent hand of 25 in the last game. Markram is a good batter against pace as well as against the spinners and the visitors will be looking up to him for some explosive batting.
Defending a low score, Kagiso Rabada breathed fire in his opening spell, showing how good a bowler he is. Rabada at times was unplayable and kept South Africa in the hunt until he had the ball in hand. Rabada ended the match with figures of 16-1 in 4 overs.
Axar Patel once again had a decent outing in the first T20I and picked up a wicket, giving just 16 runs in his four overs. Given his recent form, Axar Patel is almost certain to make it to every fantasy team.
