It has not been a great start for Gujarat Giants women and Royal Challengers Bangalore women in WPL so far. Both teams have lost the two games played so far. After being thrashed by Mumbai Indians in the first match and losing by 143, Gujarat came close to beating UP Warriors but Grace Harris snatched a win from the jaws of defeat for UP, leaving Gujarat stunned. Gujarat would feel if they can stick to the basics, they can have results in their favour.
RCB are in a miserable position as they have been blown away in both games. Despite being a force on paper, RCB has looked toothless. The batting looks strong with Mandhana, Sophie Divine and Ellyse Perry but the bowling looks off-balance. Megan Scutt and Renuka Singh are decent bowlers but the ground dimensions are tough for the kind of bowlers they are. RCB need to play out of their skin to go the distance in WPL.
All the matches played in the tournament so far have been big-scoring ones and another big-scoring game is on the cards.
IMD has predicted light rainfall in Mumbai for the next few days thus it could be a big hindrance in the match.
Sabbhineni Meghana, Sophia Dunkley/Beth Mooney, Sushma Verma (wk), Ashleigh Gardner, Annabel Sutherland, Dayalan Hemalatha, Harleen Deol, Sneh Rana (c), Kim Garth, Mansi Joshi, Tanuja Kanwar
Smriti Mandhana (c), Sophie Devine, Ellyse Perry, Disha Kasat, Richa Ghosh (wk), Heather Knight, Kanika Ahuja, Megan Schutt, Shreyanka Patil, Preeti Bose, Renuka Thakur Singh
RCB will be mulling over getting in Dane van Niekerk into the team but they will have to drop Sophie Divine or Ellyse Perry which is not an easy call. Meanwhile, Beth Mooney has returned to training and might feature in the next game for Gujarat.
It is the first match between both the teams.
Wicketkeeper | Beth Mooney, Richa Ghosh |
---|---|
Batters | Heather Knight, Smriti Mandhana (VC), harleen Deol |
All-rounders | Ellyse Perry, Ash Gardner (C), Kim Gareth, Sneh Rana |
Bowlers | Megan Schutt, Renuka Singh Thakur |
The RCB captain will be under pressure after two crushing losses. Mandhana has been disappointing with the bat as well. She has looked good during her stay at the crease but has failed to carry on. RCB need big innings from her.
Perry has also looked good with the bat but she has failed to play a big knock. Perry will have to play a big role if RCB has to turn things around. She has to make use of her experience and help RCB with the ball as well.
Nothing has gone right for the RCB so far but based on pure skills, Megan Schutt is a good pick. She is a good bowler if she can get her lines right. With two matches under her belt, she is likely to find her rhythm soon.
Ashleigh Gardner without a doubt will be key for Gujarat. The Australian all-rounder is one of the best players going around and can win a game on her own, both with bat and ball.
Kim Garth had a great game against UP Warriorz as she took five wickets and put her team on brink of a victory before Grace Harris’ special snatched a win for UP from the jaws of defeat. However, Gareth will be happy with her performance.
