Bangladesh vs Pakistan, 1st T20 – New Zealand Tri-Series | |
---|---|
Date | 7th October 2022 |
Time | 7:30 AM IST, 2:00 PM GMT, 3:-0 PM LOCAL |
Venue | Hagley Oval, Christchurch |
Pakistan and Bangladesh will kick off the triangular series also involving hosts New Zealand in Christchurch. Pakistan recently played a seven-match T20I series against England at home and lost 4-3. The biggest worry for them is the form of middle-order batters. The team at the moment looks too dependent on Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan and once they are out cheaply, Pakistan have found themselves in trouble.
Meanwhile, Bangladesh last played against UAE and won 2-0. However, most of the big players were rested from the team. With all their senior players back, this should be close content.
The surface will be good for batting for sure. Hagley Oval is one of the smallest grounds in the world so brace yourself for some high scoring games.
The weather looks good with no chance of rain. However, it will be uneasy for the players as the temperature will be on the lower side, around 5-7 degrees.
Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Sabbir Rahman, Litton Das, Shakib Al Hasan (captain), Afif Hossain, Mosaddek Hossain, Nurul Hasan (wicketkeeper), Nasum Ahmed, Mustafizur Rahman, Taskin Ahmed, Ebadot Hossain
Mohammad Nawaz, Babar Azam(c), Haider Ali/Shan Masood, Shadab Khan, Asif Ali, Mohammad Wasim Jr, Khushdil Shah, Naseem Shah/Mohammad Hasnain, Mohammad Rizwan(w), Haris Rauf, Iftikhar Ahmed
Haider Ali picked up viral infection in England series so his participation is doubtful. Naseem Shah is also doubtful after picking up Pneumonia. Bangladesh will bring back all their senior players who missed UAE series.
As expected, Pakistan have dominated Bangladesh in T20Is.
Matches Played | Pakistan | Bangladesh | NR | |
---|---|---|---|---|
Overall | 15 | 13 | 2 | 0 |
Wicketkeeper | Mohammad Rizwan (VC) |
---|---|
Batters | Shabbir Rahman, Babar Azam, Afif Hossain |
All-rounders | Shakib Al Hasan (C), Shadab Khan, Mohammad Nawaz, Mehidy Hasan Miraz |
Bowlers | Mustafizur Rahman, Haris Rauf, Mohammad Wasim |
Babar Azam blew hot and cold in the England series but he played a couple of brilliant knocks including a century in the second T20I. Babar is one of the best batters in the world and is well capable to perform in any condition. He will be Pakistan’s most important player.
Mohammad Rizwan will also be vital for Pakistan. The No 1 T20I batter had a staggering series against England and scored 316 runs in 6 games. Pakistan depend a lot on him and Babar so he will have to continue the form.
Mehidy has been given a slot as an opener and he has been asked to play attacking cricket. So far, this has worked for him as he has played a few impactful knocks. Also, he is a very capable bowler so he will be key for Bangladesh.
There is no need to say that the veteran will be a key player for Bangladesh. He is their captain, best batter and also the best bowler so Shakib will have to play a massive role if Bangladesh have to make an impact in the series.
Haris Rauf bowled well in the England series. He becomes more lethal in overseas conditions to his extra pace and bounce as the wickets do support bowlers like him so Haris Rauf can cause plenty of trouble to the Bangladesh batters.
